    Exploding Beer :-(

Thanks for the hint, pretty good plan. Although from what I've tasted so far, I'm minded not to put too much effort into saving this batch, might just chalk it up to experience... Al.

    Exploding Beer :-(

I'm now deciding whether it's safe to venture into the garage after two days of 30C temperatures  My first time brewing without one of the Youngs kits where they give you *everything* you need and very precise instructions, had to happen eventually! Disappointed as I now have to...

    Exploding Beer :-(

The kit didn't come with anything else, aside from the tin of malt and a packet of yeast. The instructions said they recommended 1kg of brew enhancer, and since I didn't see that mentioned in the instructions anywhere, I assumed that was for priming. Should I have added that to the FV at...

    Exploding Beer :-(

I primed with the whole 1kg - cos the instructions said they recommend 1kg of brew enhancer 1. However, the bottling guide then says to prime at the rate of 8g/litre which is nowhere near 1kg (184g for 23 litres). Out of interest, how much longer would you leave it, and is there...

    Exploding Beer :-(

I *think* so - thought that was what the instructions said...

    Exploding Beer :-(

All very good questions. Sadly the paperwork I had the SG readings on was in the plastic tub and has been ditched as it was sodden :-( It was in the FV for about 8 days, I think, slightly longer than the 6 recommended in the instructions. I used 1kg of brew enhancer and batch primed in my...

    Exploding Beer :-(

I recently brewed a batch of Coopers Canadian Blonde recently and bottled it about 4/5 weeks ago. I used a mixture of Kilner bottles (1.5 litres) and re-used 500ml beer bottles. I went to get some out for a BBQ on Saturday and found that 5 of my Kilner bottles had exploded and there was a...

    Coopers Canadian Blonde First Taste

Thanks all, will leave it all well alone for a few weeks yet :-) Al.

    Coopers Canadian Blonde First Taste

Decided I couldn't wait any longer today and tried my Canadian Blonde that I bottled just less than 2 weeks ago. Now wish I hadn't :-( Tasted a bit like when post-mix soft drinks have very little syrup and lots of fizzy water. Just hoping I'm way too early and it'll improve with age.. Al.

    Coopers Canadian Blonde Bottling Day

I'm always nervous about leaving it too long in the FV, don't want to risk ruining it. Having the confidence to do what you think is best is all part of gaining experience with these things, I guess. Al.

    Coopers Canadian Blonde Bottling Day

Thanks for that :-) These are in the garage, in a box and under a blanket so hopefully OK from a sunlight perspective. I'll bear in mind your advice about hot countries too  Al.

    Coopers Canadian Blonde Bottling Day

Ah, thanks for that! Out of interest, what did you do? Was trying to use Flickr as the photos were already uploaded to there so seemed like the easy option :-) Al.

    Coopers Canadian Blonde Bottling Day

I posted on one of the forums here a while back asking advice for my next brew (#4 - still a rookie!). Coopers Canadian Blonde was mentioned, I liked the sound of it so duly placed an order. My previous brews have been more complete sets (e.g. Youngs American IPA) where you get everything you...

    Bottle caps and sizes

Is bench capper one that has a stand for the bottle, rather than a hand held one? Guess the former makes keeping the bottle in place easier? Al.

    Bottle caps and sizes

Excellent, was hoping there was some standardisation with the bottle sizes :) Thanks for the prompt reply! Al.

    Bottle caps and sizes

Mornin' All! I have a quick question regarding bottle cappers. I'm thinking of bottling my next batch in recycled beer bottles that I've drunk, and was wondering if they are all the same size? I was looking on home-brew-shop and found a crown capper that said it was for 26mm bottles. Does...

My Next Brew - any suggestions

Canadian Blonde duly ordered  Out of interest, what does adding the honey do? Al.

My Next Brew - any suggestions

That Canadian Blonde looks interesting, might give that a go. It looks like the kit is just malt extract, and nothing else. I'm going to show my ignorance here, but I seem to recall the youngs kits coming with more than that (memory's dreadful - did they have two tins of something?). Do I...

My Next Brew - any suggestions

Sorry, should have given more information :-) I'm a kit brewer. If Lager is more sensitive to temps than ale I might well struggle, especially with the warmer weather (presumably) on its way. I have seen the Youngs New World Saison kit which looks interesting (although I have no idea what a...
