    What are you drinking tonight.

A Festival Weiss, that's a Coopers Amber Ale I'm finishing up with a chocolate marmalade stout to follow.

    What did you brew today?

The Lyons Golden syrup is to bump up the ABV. My apologies about the tea bag, I used a mesh bag with the hop pellets in and put it into 4L of just boiled water but with no weight in it so it's like giant hop tea bag for an hour. Every time I passed the pan I squeezed it against the side like I...

Crazy animals that can survive in space

I don't think it's a case where they can survive, it's a case of just how do you kill them, if their big brother ever turns up we're all in trouble.

    What are you drinking tonight.

As I brewed tonight just the one (school night), a Coopers Aber Ale, 6%, with an early EKG & First Gold hop tea. Instead of a dry hop I added a late Bramling Cross hop tea. Bottled 3rd May, shaping up nicely.

    Non alcoholic beer?

Sorry to go off topic but I hadn't thought about this for years. I loved this as a kid, it was our Saturday night visit to the Offie with pocket money in hand.

    Can’t work out contamination issue

Maybe dismantle your bottling wand and see what's going on in there. I dismantle and rinse mine as soon as I've finished bottling. I know you boil it but it might be worth a look.

    To dry hop or not?

A late hop tea is an alternative to dry hopping, steep the hops in a mesh bag in just boiled water for 40 mins, I don't weigh the bag down, just treat it like a giant tea bag. Cover it and when cooled add to the FV, I've enjoyed all the beers where I've swapped a dry hop for a late hop tea.

Do you brew alone or in company

I make them all breakfast and then banish them out of my kitchen, turn the radio on and then it's me time.

60 minute mash Vs 20 minute mash

In the article the differences in his OG seemed negligible, the shorter mash beer seemed to kick off the ferment better than the longer mash beer. The only difference seemed to be the better mouth feel on the longer mash beer and the shorter mash beer being thinner. However the blind tasting...

60 minute mash Vs 20 minute mash

I've wondered before about (fior example), a 20 minute mash, a 15 minute boil to sterilise and hot break the wort. Hops done in a pressure cooker to extract the bitterness and then 5 minute and flame out hop additions als in the pressure cooker. The theory being that the pressure and 140c temp...

How important is the type of yeast?

Please understand this is a kit Brewer giving advice on AG brewing. By the time you get to pitching the yeast you may well appreciate a yeast like a Wilko Gervin (Nottingham) that you can just sprinkle on top, put the lid on the FV walk away and not have to think about for week or even two as...
