    Batch Sparging

Ditto, Only one batch sparge for me, not had an issue yet. I do keep mulling over trying fly sparging, but it does sound like extra effort and time.

    Water heat up times

You can also speed up the process of heating less water, I would normally heat my mash water and once that's on heat my sparge, both in the same HLT. That way I'm heating between 10 & 18 litres at a time depending on the brew requirements, it all helps. I can also use my Inkbird to control the...

    Cheap refractometers

Never had one, but want to try one along side my hydrometer, so punted an offer, will see what they come back with, but even for a fiver I'll have a bash.

    Life after PECO ?

My life after Peco BIAB is basically three Peco's :-) After buying one and doing a few BIAB brews I decided I wanted to go three vessel, so I bought two more buckets off ebay (about £9 each), another element, some taps and insulation. Much cheaper than an all in one, but does take up a...

    Boiling Kettel size

Yeah I can't see them surviving much of a flame :-) But as a guide to volumes it still works. I guess it's a funny time of year for some of the smaller businesses, either maxed out with orders you do have and no one to back fill the queries, or shut up shop early for a break. Either...

    Boiling Kettel size

I find my 32 litre plastic bins to be a fine size for 23L into the fermenter, with a Pre-Boil volume of 28 litres, that said when I do finally upgrade to some stainless further down the line I will go for 50L pots to allow for some expansion. But to echo some other comments I would never try...

    Finally a brew day

Cheers Dutto, I have since liberated a laptop from the disposal pile at work and snuck onto the visitor WiFi, no stopping me now :-D It is nice to have access back again.

    Finally a brew day

It’s fair to say I’m damned happy with this Porter, lovely flavours, really smokey, slow pour as per normal from the PB but I can live with that.

    Priming a Barrel

I just use regular unrefined table sugar, and use (I think) a Brewers Friend calculator for CO2 volumes, I tend to go lower on my PB volumes, impossible to pour otherwise.

All my AG brews are pants...

Planning, preparation and patience. I'm only 5 AG brews in, some mistakes yes, but all drinkable, I always plan every step of the brew day and now have a good grasp on my water calculations for that brewday, all spreadsheets that can be manipulated for the next brewday. Have a look at the...

    2+2+2 ?

It's a good starting point and then around that measure, test and taste. It may take less, it may need a lot more. For example both my last batches were fermented in a week, but left for a 1.5 weeks before testing again and transfer to PB, after a week carbonating they were at a level I was...

    Finally a brew day

A test pour of both this evening after a week carbonating, both lovely and beautifully clear right now, basically ready to drink.

    Mash and HLT temp monitoring

I use an Inkbird ITC-306 for controlling the temperature of my HLT for Mash and Sparge water and I also use cheap digital thermometers to just give a second opinion, and my Glass thermometer pokes out of my Mash tun when mashing.

    Temperature Monitoring

Cheers Fil, I do like a bit of a project so some ideas to mull over there, I do like the idea of having it accessible via the internet.

    Temperature Monitoring

I don't think that one monitors to create a history of the temperatures though (unless you know different), just current temperature, nice bit of kit though.

    Temperature Monitoring

Has anyone tried one of these Inkbird IBS-TH1 devices https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07748V35X/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20 I'm interested in monitoring my brew temperatures, I can see the temp each time I wander off to the garage, but it would be fun to be able to see how it has been...

Auto Siphon Drama - FV to Keg

I used to get bubble in mine around where the tubing connected to the rigid pipe, it bugged me to start with but never seemed to really cause any issues. I get a good clear flow these days with no bubbles, and think that is partially from the seals all bedding nicely and a bit of technique in...

Fermentation Time - Am I waiting long enough?

Fermentation is done when it's done, test its gravity and you'll know. I don't use secondary, it's in primary until I hit the target or close and not moving and then transferred to the PB or bottled after moving to a bottling bucket. If you leave it long enough in primary to do what it needs...

Cleaner / Sanitiser / CleanerSanitizer Hell!

I either just use (Really) hot water for cleaning and some elbow grease, or a bigger dose of Chemipro OXI as I find it agitates any stubborn grubby bits, I then also use Chemipro OXI as my sanitiser, It's what I've always used due to the water around here, but I have just picked up some...
