Easiest way to sterilise 40 odd bottles

Lot's of people say they use the dishwasher to sanitise bottles . . . Personally 70C steam for 30 minutes, is not going to do it . . . it's one of those if they are cleaned properly then you might, probably, get away with it 99% of the time, which is most peoples eyes is 'Good Enough' . . ...

    mash schedule for a pilsner

I would probably go for a 50C rest and then to 62. . . You don't really want to hang around in the 55 to 60 point for too long . . And if you go for 55 to 64 you get too much beta amylase at 55 and still have proteolytic activity at 64

    mash schedule for a pilsner

Be careful at that 55c rest you will get significant beta amylase activity which can lead to an over attenuative beer. If doing a decoction mash do not skip the 35C rest ;)

Steeping Hops - Is this a better way of doing it?

Sorry Ed and Rob, but you do get bitterness from steeping 'flame out' hops A brewing colleague of mine, did the home brewing course at Brewlab (way back when) and as part of the course did an investigation into the effects of late hopping and steeping hops at different temperatures. What he...

    Old Style Lager Recipies

No . . . most pale malts are capable of converting themselves and 100% of a non diastatic adjunct so the 20-30% of corn or rice that is present in a CAP is easily within the range. If you are using flaked maize then it's not a 'genuine' CAP anyway as a CAP would have been made with Corn Grits ...

    Old Style Lager Recipies

No you'll still need the flaked maize or you won't have a CAP. . . You need it for the flavour

It is tricky to remove the spear if the safety device is in place unless you have the proper tool. Rather than buy the tool most users remove the safety device

Oxyclean, can i just use washing powder?

It is a 'Oxy' Cleaner so will do the job . . . . It is not a washing powder as such ;) You can get cheaper In Wilkinsons, Astonish Oxy Plus is one, it's fragrance free (Which is important, these laundry fragrances are designed to resist rinsing)

Oxyclean, can i just use washing powder?

No it isn't . . No you can't! I have been known to use Dishwasher powder on really stubborn stains

    Old Style Lager Recipies

This has had some good reviews. and used as a single infusion mash at 65C with British lager malt will make a good lager . . .not quite the depth of flavour that you would get from the decocted/stepped mash version but damn tasty. You need to pitch lots of yeast I like w34/70 as a dry yeast ...
