    water report

Get away with using CRS to reduce your alkalinity . . . Munich brewers have high sulphate so use half the hopping rate of Bohemian brewers. So something like Lowenbrau Export at 1.054 will bitter to around 20-25IBU but Bernard Celebration Pilsner at 1.052 is bittered to around 45-50IBU Can't...

    water report

What Murphys don't tell you about using CRS is that you can't really brew a successful pilsner style beer using it if your water contains a high level of alkalinity. The amount of sulphate that it throws into the water is ridiculous, and it will if using the hopping rates for a Bohemian Pilsner...

    Superhero

Aleman has been known to steal defenses of his foes and use it against them. Additionally, he has the power to change shape into a werewolf and he possesses the power to transform ice into shadow. Aleman can block flame and deflect them in a field around himself and he has a fantastic...

A litre of Star San in my yeast starter! (Help!)

It's dead! Even if you do get it going again, it will be rife with petite mutants, and fermentation will suffer. You make a starter to build up a population of healthy yeast . . . if they ain't healthy, it ain't going to make great beer

I have a replica of the Greeny Lemondrop Les Paul . . . superb tone

    Music

I've gone back to my Hard Rock roots since I started learning the guitar . . .but I have also started listening to the blues, which less face it is the basis of rock and pop anyway. My Guitar tutor will suggest a particular tack to learn . . .and if I haven't heard the group then I'll buy some...

    Corny's...

No, if anything it would exacerbate the issue, the beer is saturated with CO2 at equilibrium with the pressure in the keg. . . . . If you change the equilibrium (reduce the pressure) then there is more in the liquid than in the head space, so gas would travel from the liquid to the head space ...

    Corny's...

Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, not strictly true, the amount of carbonation is a function of temperature and pressure :thumb: . . but whether you get foam or not is dependant on you having a balanced dispensed system . . . . the pressure drop (due to resistance of the beer line) needs to be such that at the...

    Any folkies?

As a musician (A Bad One . . . but still) Spotify will kill music even more than home taping I saw a great rant by Frank Gambale explaining that these online streaming sites pay Eff All to the artists, so they are all withdrawing their music . . . If the artists don't get decent royalities...

    Corny's...

Or even get rid of the 3/8 entirely . . . Stem reducers are great for that :thumb: I love 3/16 line as it is so much more flexible than 3/8
  12. A

    Corny's...

What you really need is some 3/16 and a couple of 3/8 -> 3/16 Stem fittings . . . . then 1m of the 3/16 should eliminate most of your issue . . . and you won't need to reduce the pressure to serve. . . . In fact if you start with 6 feet and reduce it down 6" at a time until you get a good pour...

    Star San dosage.

Well it needs to be mixed, inverting it a few times should be enough . . .Don't Fear The Foam :D . . .It does break down again so that you can pour it into a spray bottle.

    Chlorine removal

Actually metabisulphite will remove chloramines, there was a good article about it 3 or 4 years ago in Brewers Contact . . . Which is summarised showing the reaction at Jims Beer Kit

    Sterilising Fermentation vessel

Given how cheap star san and videne actually are . . . it's not worth 10-12 hours of my time to risk a spoiled batch because I didn't make it up fresh when I need it . . :nono: :nono: . . . . Telling people that it is ok to reuse a sanitiser only leads to bad habits, it's not worth the risk

    Sterilising Fermentation vessel

VWP is an all in one Cleanser sanitiser, and it works well . . . if a little expensive. . . .Cleaning wash the worst off with hot water then put 1L of the hot solution into the fv and wipe it round with a new clean non stick sponge scourer . . .using the sponge side only . . . if it is a hard...

    corny kegs

That is the problem, the market in used corny kegs is drying up . . Hear and in the US . . .They are still available in parts of Europe, but I suspect that even there they are being phased out

    corny kegs

I'm getting 140 quid a pair (including postage) for refurbished used kegs . . including a set of disconnects and a new seal kit
  19. A

    So I bought some kegs...

Can I just make one point about polykegs (indeed any PET 'bottle'). They are intended for single use operation . . . yes they can be dismantled . . for recycling Yes they can be refilled . . . HOWEVER . . . ( Sorry  however ) the bottle is lined with a gas barrier so that gas does not...

Easiest way to sterilise 40 odd bottles

Correct, Biofilms are a PITA . . . A Good cleanser lifts films straight off though Astonish Whizz Oxi Action does . . .and I am amazed at how good PBW is at removing films. I recently made up some plates for yeast culturing from a batch of Agar I had made up a couple of years ago. Due to the...
