    What did you brew today?

Nothing today, but yesterday I did my first extract brew. I had to improvise a bit as my stock pot was smaller than I thought, but I am currently waiting for my HBC blonde ale to start fermenting.

Geterbrewed have got the Cool Brewing Bag in

I know this is a (slightly) old thread but I just got one of these from HBC. I am rather impressed with mine. As mentioned previously, these things are rather large but it compresses down to a compact size and has a strap for transporting it. The temperature in my kitchen has been mid 20s...

    Brewferm Triple

I've had this in the bottle for 3 weeks now. I was initially a little worried about priming as the instructions seem to suggest 7g/l but that is less than others here are using. I thought I would sample a bottle to see how it has changed (I had about 1/2 bottle left over which did not taste nice...

    this weather...

That is good to know thank you. That seems to agree with the claims that a 2 litre bottle gives a 5F temperature drop with a potential max drop of 30F and therefore could potentially be usable for lagers. Might have to invest in one of these.

    Oxiclean!?!!!

I used the Tesco one recently myself. Although I thought I had cleaned properly after my 1st brew spots of mold did appear on various bits of equipment afterwards. After using oxiclean it seems to have disappeared. So far I am happy with it.

    this weather...

I've seen something called a "Cool Brewing Bag" which is basically a big insulated bag into which goes the FV along with bottles of frozen water. I've seen it at a couple of UK sites for about £50, discussion at US forums indicates that it seems quite effective. I too don't have space for a...

    Re: Festival Razorback IPA Review

Since I moved the bottles into a colder place about a week ago I thought I would try a sample to see how it is getting on. I wasn't expecting anything great but it is a really nice pint already. For a first attempt I am very happy with it. Quite a strong grapefruit taste and fairly bitter but...

    Extract brewing

Just wanted to say thank you for this thread, I will be reading with interest as I am thinking of starting extract brewing. A quick question if I may? I am looking at some extract recipes at brewersfriend. Specifically, when it states boil size, am I right in assuming this is the volume of the...

    Brewferm Triple

I just started this using 500g candi sugar. OG was only 1064, seems a little low but at least one other in this thread had something similar. Obviously no activity just yet, I am in no rush for this one as I plan to leave it until around Christmas before drinking.

    Re: Festival Razorback IPA Review

This is my first kit. I started it on 14th May with an OG of 1046. I added the hop pellets 11 days later with the hope that fermentation would finish today. The last couple of days it was a constant 1004 so that should be about 5.5%. As it is my first kit I followed the instructions precisely...

    Is this the worst kit

    I'd wear this...

    Hello from Oxfordshire

Thank you, yes I can just about see through the FV that a Krausen has formed and hit the lid. It is bubbling perhaps every 10 seconds or so at the moment but since I put the lid back on (properly this time!) it has stayed there and all seems fine. I don't yet see any signs of the krausen going...

    Hello from Oxfordshire

Thank you all for the welcome :) I am brewing the Festival Razorback IPA kit. I started it on Saturday evening. I went out Sunday afternoon and I could see the water level in the airlock was moving, suggesting that pressure was building up. Got home just now (Monday evening) and the cap had...

    New selection at morrisons

I've not had the Dubbel but their Tripel is a great beer. I've still got one in the fridge I think.

    What are you drinking tonight?

To celebrate starting my first ever brew (Festivals Razorback IPA) and since it has been a lovely warm day I've cracked open a bottle of St. Feuillien Saison. Lovely :)
