    Mobile phones

I just upgraded from moto g4 to the g5 and it seems much better. (£120 from Argos and you get £10 voucher this weekend). I use a sim only contract as seems the only one allows me to tether devices to. All the same apps and on the old phone was always running out of space. The g5 says i have...

    Innacurate Scales

How did you measure a litre of water? That could be just 1% out on each side - seem accurate enough ?

What type of water do you use?? Bottled spring water or just normal tap water??

I usually use a mixture 1/9 of Thames tap water and Devon tap water mixed with a campden tablet. This seems to give me a 25 alk water and I add a bit of gypsum into the boil if I want a hoppy beer. I can up or lower the alk if I do I dark or lager beer. Not sure if this makes it any better from...

    Chilled too early - doh

Hi all, just did a big error - I have 2 brew fridges and only have access to them at the weekends (it is a holiday cottage). So I had 2 beers going - one was a week in and had went to 1.010 where I wanted it the other 2 weeks in and again got to the level I wanted (1.012). What I meant to...

    Forgot to stabilise

thanks for the replies. I have it in a beer bucket with a lid at the moment (it is about 22lts). Has been degassed and finings added so if it is cleared by Wednesday I will siphon off into my bottling bucket, add the stabiliser and then bottle.

    Forgot to stabilise

Hi have just racked off a juice wine - it had been fermenting for 2 weeks and went from 1.080 to 0.994. I added 1 campden tablets per 5 lts and also added Kwik Clear finings but no stabiliser. I won't be able to do anything with the wine until Wednesday (3 days) should I add the stabiliser...

    Wine and water

thanks all for the replies. I still get the impression that the majority of people don't bother with any issues with water when making their wine - just straight from the tap. Is it the higher ABV that sorts any differences? Or is the beer process just different? Again an example is at the end...

    Wine and water

hi all, I do mainly AG beer brewing and there is lots of stuff around the water treatment. Just starting up with wines and wondered if any of that is relevant? As examples: a) Campden tab to remove chlorine etc b) soft or hard water treatments (more for a better mash) But for wine (kits or...

Polystyrene Bottle Packaging (a la Dads_ale's bottle swap)

thanks for organising this - can I just check what we are doing here. Are you going to buy the tubes and then post 3 beers out to us (that would be +30 x £2.80+£2.85 = >£150)? Then we return ours to you? Or are you posting the empty tubes to us (not as much fun !) Also if you look at...

    Cheap whiskey

just make a Manhattan cocktail with it: 2-4 parts bourbon 1 part red vermouth dash of bitters (optional dash of syrup from the cherrys if you like a bit of sweetness) shaken with some ice maraschino cherry on stick 2 or 3 of them and it will taste great. chris
