Hi Guys, old brewer, but new member here. Brummie.

Hiya, if you are open to more new world hoppy style beers the Youngs American style kits have got pretty good reviews and would be worth checking out, Woodfordes Wherry is a firm forum favourite but you will probably need a replacement ale yeast as it's renowned for sticking at the dreaded 1.020.

Beer Not coming out of Keg tap

Exactly how long did you wait from adding the sugar until you tried to fill a bottle?

    Sediment in Dark DJs

Wine will clear and degas itself over time, if you aren't in a hurry to drink it by using finings then let it settle out and keep the airlock on it so no positive pressure builds up inside the DJ.

WTB: 5 gallon glass demijohns, Rossendale

Lifting 5 gallons in a plastic bucket that has a handle can be tough enough, lifting 5 gallons contained in glass with nothing more than a couple of finger catches is asking for trouble, a gallon of water weighs in at 10lbs . With mead and it having a few different recipes for taste/flavour why...

    Which malt AG

I used some Carabelge malt along with torrified wheat and flaked barley in my last batch and with Re to colour it could only be described as a Golden ale, US05 and Northern Brewer hops @60 mins (30g pellets) and Aurora Super Styrian @5 mins (30g) and 7 days dry hop (30g) to complete it, more...

Brew day to drinking in two weeks. How to?

Something like Nottingham yeast at a fairly warm temp with the beer fined at day 8 or 9, beer kegged at day 10 or 11 and two days being forced carbed then serve it cold and it should be fairly passable, after the first few no one will be caring to much.

    Home Bar

Easiest way is to get yourself some cornies and a secondhand fridge, there is plenty of info on the web to look at with regard to setting them up and what fittings you would need (search keezers or kegerators), do be sure though that you can easily and cheaply source Co2. If you want 3 beers...

    Beware Burco false promise

Your grain has a dry volume of around 13 litres, approx 400g of crushed grain is about 1 litre volume, it has absorbed in around 5 litres overnight with also probably a bit of evaporation in that. With the short boil probably around another 2-3 litres lost. You need to allow more water in your...

Getting Information on the State of Homebrew Sales in the UK

Join any local homebrew clubs to get the word out and offer them a small discount, run a monthly/weekly training school to pique peoples interest, find your nearest homebrew shop and check it out they are gonna be the competition from now on. You would also need to consider exactly what you...

    Keg, finings and sugar

Have you checked first that your keg will seal up and be leak free? Ordinary table sugar will do for priming as its very cheap. If the beer has cleared rack it the day before you want to keg it and then transfer it to the keg that should leave it quite clear, using finings will clear it but as...

    Vinbrite wine filter

I'm probably gonna wait until I've a large volume to do because of the price of those pads, running a gallon thru here or there just isn't worth it imo, 30 bottles of Rose followed by 30 bottles of RGJ and Apple though would.

    Vinbrite wine filter

I have one of those filters though i haven't used it, i recall it saying something about connecting some tubing to it to reduce the splash. I've found that a well settled wine that has been racked will be as clear as day so i have never bothered to use the filter yet though i do intend to try it...

    All grain kit wanted

http://www.thehomebrewforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=72561 Not sure if its within your budget or driving distance but it's a bargain and well worth considering.

Advice needed on the rose kit.

Most kit instructions give ballpark numbers with regards to the time taken to hit a final gravity so don't worry to much about them, just take a reading after 10 days and see where you are at.

I wasn't impressed by the trailer they have been running so it's put me right of it.

    New Guy - Belfast area

Hobbyweld don't do mixed dispense gasses atm afaik, he got in two of there food grade Co2 when i enquired and said he would order more when i picked one of them up. Unfortunately i think BOC are the only ones who supply mixed gasses over here though i haven't done any research for ROI. A pub...

    New Guy - Belfast area

Hiya, if you are venturing up to GEB to pick up stuff at any point there is a place just outside Ballymena that now keeps Co2. Look up Heron Agri and ask him if he has any in stock, i got a bottle a couple of months ago and he had 1 left but was ordering more, he stocks the Hobbyweld range of...

    What are cask ales?

Before dropping a wedge of cash on a pressure barrel read up on the problems with them, these forums are full of people having issues with them. At upwards of £50 a pop they aren't cheap so be prepared.

    What are cask ales?

Afaik a cask ale is naturally carbed rather than forced carbed, it will be served using a beer engine rather than having gas force it from the keg and will be naturally conditioned, we already do already pretty much have cask ale if you prime a pressure barrel or corny or prime and condition...

    Naturally carbing a corny

Make sure your beer is as clear as possible before putting it into the corny, excessive sediment/trub in the cornie can lead to the dip tube blocking. There will be some clouding at the start and end but as long as the amount of sediment is kept to a minimum when racking you should be fine...
