    re ndl post. Thats not an expensive price to get your first bottle. anything from £80-£100 is normal to buy a cylinder. They last a good while and the refilled cylinder will cost you in the region of £15.

    Digital thermometer

    you need a thermowell in the mash tun if you want to constantly measure temp. the hot dampness will eventually kill any thermometer left in there. Your linked one is expensive ! try one by ETI in e bay......around £10

    My first of 2014

    All done by 1130, no problems apart from an element going down mid boil.... :doh: I have a spare and will replace it later. Ended up with 1043 which is spot on my target, unfortunately I got 28 litres instead of 21...... :party: :party: Nice light colour and should give me a beer of around 4.5%.

    The effect of a temperature drop at or end of fermentation

    at this time of the year its beneficial to move them when they have finished fermenting. allow to stand for a week on a cold floor thereby freeing up your fridge etc. then bottle or keg it
