Ruining my beer - plaster taste

Interesting info. Looking at the table, there’s a major difference between Passivated and Unpassivated stainless steel. Can we assume that all the stainless kit that we use (stock pots, valves, disconnects, nuts & bolts, etc. are made from passivated stainless steel?

This was my New England IPA on Friday. It was fine when I dry hopped with 275g of leaf hops on 8 June and added finings on 12 June. Had a major issue with the bag of hops floating on the surface even though weighed down with a dozen or so sanitised spoons. Added two sanitised tins of baked...

    How many of you have?

I started brewing last summer and stopped buying beer from supermarkets last July, as soon as I’d got a big enough stock of bottles. I haven’t bought a bottle since. I love pubs though. Now that restrictions have been relaxed, I’ve enjoyed my five “locals” and am keen to support them. The...

    Nottingham dried yeast

Has anyone used these? They’re reasonably priced, with free postage, but don’t seem to be packaged like the normal Lallemand Nottingham packs. Alternatively, what would be the best substitute from the Mango Jacks or Safale/Fermentis ranges?

    Burco Cygnet scorching problem

Thanks Samale. I’ll probably revert to a single infusion mash. I used to mash in at 58 and rest at 56 for 20 minutes before raising to the recipe mash temperature of 66/67. For the last two brews, I’ve mashed in lower, with 10 min’s at 48, 20 min’s at 56 and 30 min’s at 66/67. I guess that...

    Burco Cygnet scorching problem

Thanks, Cheshire. I’m now using a grain basket, so the malts are not in contact with the bottom of the boiler. It’s as though floury particles from the grain are dropping onto the element and scorching.

    Burco Cygnet scorching problem

I’ve brewed all grain beers since restarting Home Brew last summer. All was going well with brewing in a bag in my Cygnet. I did have one cut out when the bag probably touched the bottom of the Burco. I’ve had no other problems until my last two brews. Brew 33 on 21 May was the James Morton...
