    Timing Problems

   ...... it does sound bad when you add it up, that's true. And I only did so because I do keep running out and that means I drink stuff that's not quite ready  Never on Mondays and Thursdays, that sounds OK ............ he says, hopefully :(

    Timing Problems

Hahahhaahh Nick, your as bad as me ....... I can tell. Hmmm yes. I am getting fat ......... ish. Every other day ........ Ouch. I'm overdoing it and have been for a while I guess. I do have one rule however, I never drink before 6PM so convince myself I've got self control

    Timing Problems

You may be different, but for me everything seems to work on a 14 day cycle. 10-14 days in Primary, 14 days to clear in a secondary, 14 days in bottles indoors and 14 days (should be more) resisting the temptation to drink it. Here's the problem. The routine above produces about 40 pints in a...

    Chocolate and vanilla porter

4th day and first trial jar. Some surprises here! For one, it's at 1006 and 6.1% Used my usual LME so must be the dextrose I guess :wha: It's a nice dark brown. Very rich aroma, chocolate is there but not too strong and as yet more bitter than I was expecting. I'm not sure whether...

    Chocolate and vanilla porter

Mine is going nicely :D 2nd day and I can make out a chocolate coloured Kräusen. I've adapted the recipe though. 10.5 litres. Started at 1052 LME.............................................. 1.75 kg dextrose. ...................................... 250g crystal malt...

Silly Question - FV to Bottles

You could never batch prime from the primary FV ......... Your bottles would be half full of sediment  Even priming in the bottles and siphoning from the primary is not easy. There's several reason for using a secondary FV and some very good reasons for using tertiary FV! ( hey did...

Growing hops "oop north" in Lancashire

They were planted by a person unknown many years ago. The present allotment users have done nothing to care for them! they just come back each year, climbing up the perimeter fence. Mine are now 1 inch

    Krausen not falling

Ya know, the more I think about this, I wonder if some grain might have an effect too? for example, I'm using US-05 but I'm also using Carapils which may have a better head retention than some grain .......... just an idea :hmm:

    Krausen not falling

 What timing! I was just wondering the same thing. And of course with US-05 too. I found it had a slower more even ferment compared to the S-04.

    How To Test AA ?

OK thanks. So without the right tech I guess my best method might be to 'stuck it and see'. Perhaps try a single hop brew (start, middle and end) and compare it to another known single hop brew.

    How best to store hops?

I offer a special Hop Care service, I will keep them in the best possible environment .......... a certain liquid I make

Best bottles to use for a Youngs twin handled capper

They are very good. Griffin Brewery, which I think is Fullers, are not great. But also avoid anything clear and green too.
