Staying with Kits or moving on?

I think an extract brew can be done cheaply. Granted, not as cheap as AG and not that much cheaper than a Wherry kit but you learn a few things and have lots of control with a recipe of your choice or even one you invent. The only new piece of equipment I need was a 20L boiling pan and that I...

Newbie question: steeping grains for an extract recipe

Paul I followed Pitsys advice, 250g of cystal malt (you might need to adjust for others) in 1 litre at 66c for 30 mins, then add another litre and steep for 10 mins more. Chuck them In?

Last brew I dry hoped in a muslin bag with a stone weight. Did I also add infection? I don't know  My latest dumb question is, could I just throw them in? I know they'll mostly float but would that be enough?

    Have I gone wrong?

7 days! Blimey, Coopers kits recommend 3 months conditioning. for 'Off Tastes' this is quite a good guide. Check the 2nd down. http://www.howtobrew.com/section4/chapter21-2.html

    Have I gone wrong?

So you've gone for keg rather than bottles. I think 12 days is very early, if it were bottles I would say more like 4 weeks conditioning. Harsh taste can be down to lack of conditioning.
