    What are you drinking tonight.

Right well, after a home Choccy brew earlier on which has to be my best brew yet.... I'm now on a home brewed Coconut ale, which again is nice but not so after the choccy brew. Sigh!

Nottingham students brew beer using out-of-date bread

....and how do you hold your beer glass Phil, little finger in the air perhaps?

    Hi there!

It really is a wonderful re-discovery isn't it?... welcome back to home brewing!

    What are you drinking tonight.

Mum was cleaning out her drinks cabinette this afternoon and found this... "Would you like to take it to drink she asks..." Not half... What's it like? Taste very much of port or sherry, not bad but going to have one of my own homebrews afterwards, I Shall enjoy that!

So for a 15 litre brew with an OG 1050 do you reckon ONE teaspoon of Nutrient will be enough?

    Wild hops

I've a feeling that these hops won't be as good as commercially cultivated ones being as they are wild. I'm wondering if their stickiness and pleasant aroma gives any clue as to what a beer will turn out like. Thankfully I'm not really a bitter lover so I'm expecting something pretty much...

    Wild hops

Well, I've just laid them all out ready for an early morning brew now as other things have got in the way this evening. Hopefully all the creepy crawlies will have left by morning. I plan to do a very simple light DME (2kg) brew OG 1050, 100g hops (50g start of boil and 50g end of boil) boil...

    Wild hops

Just been and picked a load locally, again, no idea what sort they are but hands were very sticky after picking.... Will make a beer tonight!

    Chocolate Stout

Looks good! hope you have more luck than I had with cocoa nibs, they didn't taste very chocolaty to me and the oil destroyed the head foam. All my choccy brews now have Cadburys bournville cocoa powder and then at bottling a 2ml shot of Chocolate essence to each bottle.

    Anonymity equals rude?

I reckon people have become much more fearful of each other, times have become harder to deal with. People have pride that they do not like knocking, so it is so much easier to hide behind an anonymous name, I guess I'm the same in many ways. Political correctness is one of the biggest...

    Burton Bridge Porter review

I did this kit in 2012 and was quite happy with it, I probably pimped it up in some way but no longer have the notes for it.

    Boiling water

Nothing wrong with that at all, I usually make a paper funnel to spoon sugar into bottle.

Sounds like a plan, I'll suggest it to the missus. :D

    What did you brew today?

I've just had a very good morning putting together a very nice Toucan. One can of Coopers Stout and one can of Coopers Dark Ale, adding 400g medium DME (the other 100g was used as a yeast starter the other day) and 250g Dark Brown Muscovardo sugar and 100g Cadburys Bournville baking cocoa...

    What are you drinking tonight.

I dunno if eating Danish Blue cheese is correct while drinking a stout, but it is going down quite well after a good morning brewing a Toucan (Two Cooper Can) Stout. This Black Sheep Milk Stout is indeedy quite stouty, not very sweet though and certainly no hints of Chocolate or coffee. There is...

    Boiling water

My answer might sound stupid, but I don't use our kettle because it is usually full (well not that much) of loose limescale. No one here bothers to clean it out. (Wonder if a 'Limescale' Stout is nice?)

    Pressure barrels, what's going on?

I quite agree Terry and it's a good reminder to make! this is another reason why I'm keen to add a pressure gauge, there is also a working pressure warning on the barrel to not exceed 10 psi. It's also an opportunity to test that the pressure release band on the S30 is up to scratch as well...

    Pressure barrels, what's going on?

Blimey YES you are right about that, why don't I think of these simpler things? Grrrrr.
