    Kegerator Stuff

Hi Does anyone know of a good website that sells a decent range of kegerator paraphernalia. My tap set up is based around tubing of 8mm external diameter and 4mm internal. I know the exact length of tubing I need for the perfect pour and I know it attaches to all the barbing on my taps etc...

    Brew software

Yeap, Beersmith for me too, I've used Brewmate and Beersmith is a lot more accurate in it's calculations. It does take a little getting used to though and I'm still learning new things it can do.

    Affordable pH Meter

Hi All Does anyone know of a decent affordable pH meter, or even a steer towards what brands I should stick to etc. I bought a cheap one on eBay, bad choice, ended up in the bin. Also when it comes to buffering solution, what should I take into account? Thanks Neil

    Yeast Starter tastes Vinegary

Hi All Just to give closure to this thread. I packaged my beer last night and had a good taste of the finished beer. No off flavours detected, in fact perfect fermentation. I can only ascertain that the cidery flavour stemmed from the high levels of oxygen in the starter from the stir plate...

Growing hops "oop north" in Lancashire

Nice, mine are roughly the same. I've got two which are entering their second year, whereas the 3rd is newly planted and doing well. Crossed fingers there should be a good crop this year :)

    Yeast Starter tastes Vinegary

I had a taste of the fermenting beer last night and so far all is good. No hint of vinegar or cider. Will know for sure once the fermentation is complete next week. But looking good so far. :)

    Beersmith water profile

So don't bother with the total hardness value in the water report and use a Salifert kit to get the alkalinity of your water instead? Fair enough I pick one up at the weekend. In terms of boiling your water as a carbonate reduction method, whats the best practice for this, do you just bring...

    Beersmith water profile

Hi Sorry to hijack this thread, but I’m having a few issues trying to determine my total hardness on Grahams Water Treatment Calculator. My local water supplier is United Utilities and it expresses the average total hardness in the water report as 41 mg Ca/l, which is using the same unit as...

    Growing Hops??

I've got 1 year old EKG and Prima Donna hop plants that have started to sprout and I've freshly planted a cascade this week. I'm up in Lancashire, so not sure how well they will do. I've recently moved to a new house and I think I have found a good spot for them. I'm toying with the idea of...

    Yeast Starter tastes Vinegary

Thats what it tastes like cider, there is no phenolics so there isn't a wild yeast infection. So do you reckon it should be okay?

    Yeast Starter tastes Vinegary

Hi Does anyone know why a yeast starter should taste vinegary and should it be dumped. I have made a starter of WLP002, I made it using a stir plate. I always taste my starters to make sure it is okay and this one has a distinct vinegar taste. Should I err on the side of caution and dump it or...

    Yeast Slants Problem

Thanks for the advice, will know better next time. The slant was fine until I opened it, then it broke apart as shown in the photo. Not sure what I'm doing wrong.
