    Do I need a C02 valve?

Forgot to say that there are two types of CO2 injector: S30, which takes the larger cylinder and the smaller bulb type. I only went with the S30 as it probably works out cheaper in the long run. The caps have different valves, you can't use an S30 valve with the bulb type and vice-versa. Hope...

    Do I need a C02 valve?

I've got two Wilkos kegs and what I found at first was that I could only get about 2/3 pints out. Its gets better the longer you leave it as the beer carbonates but you can still only get a few pints out. What you don't want is air being drawn in through the tap as this will oxygenate the beer...

    Belgian Beer fermenting temperature

What temperatures are all you master brewers fermenting the Belgian beer kits at? Haven't decided which kit to try yet. The reason I ask is that the day time temperature in my brewery (garage) is hovering around the 20/22c mark. The garage is detached and is in my south facing garden, so gets...

    Lager kits, best fermenting temperature?

Right an update: On number 6 on the temperature setting, the thermometer is showing -4. I put the thermometer at the bottom of the fridge. :hmm:

    Coopers Original Stout Review

I bought a silicone whisk from Wilkos and as I add everything to the FV, I give it a really good thrashing before I add the yeast. Only downside is you do get a lot of foam on top. Makes it slightly awkward to take a hydrometer reading. The first time I did this when I added the yeast, it just...

1st brew - is it stuck?

I agree with you. I have done this twice now, both brewed short to 20L and added nothing to it. No stuck fermentation and both finished 1n 10 days. Not the most complex beer I've ever tasted but I can see this as a nice session beer. First one was 4.4% and the second was 4.5%. Next one I'm going...

    Lager kits, best fermenting temperature?

Derek1, Just realised I may have confused you. When I said I set the fridge to the lowest setting, I meant I set it to the lowest number on the thermostat. I'm going to turn it up to the highest setting today and see what the temperature is.

    Cleaning a Wilcos Pressure Barrel

By using Vaseline, you can just hand tighten it and it should be airtight. By not using it, it is possible to overtighten it and also it makes it harder to unscrew. I would leave it for now and when the barrel is next used, do the above. Good luck :)

    Lager kits, best fermenting temperature?

I left a thermostat in my fridge, turned it down to the lowest setting and at the top the reading was 6c. At the bottom it was 4c. :hmm:

    Lager kits, best fermenting temperature?

Thanks for that, thats very interesting. At the moment I'm brewing using a home made insulated box with an stc-1000 and a 60w tube heater. This has proved to be very successful at keeping the temperature constant. We only moved here last autumn and I have only been using the brew box since...

    Lager kits, best fermenting temperature?

Excuse me! are you saying I'm not one of the "best home brewers" !!! Yea, your probably right. Its just that Iv'e got a f/freezer doing nothing in my garage and thought it is a waste not to use it. I really want to keep brewing through the summer and it looks like its going to be too warm to...

    Beer in bottles

DON'T THROW IT! The sediment is a natural by product of the yeast fermenting. Just leave the last 1/2" in the bottle. It will get better the longer you leave it. I leave my Coopers English Ale for at least 4 weeks before I start drinking it but its better after 8. What I have found is, the...
