Excessive bottle carbonation - what am I doing wrong?

It also sounds like a slight infection to me. This doesn’t mean the beer will always taste bad but the gushing is an issue.

    High Final Gravity

Ha ha - have just done so. From Guernsey with a zero tolerance policy. Waiting for the knock on the door.

    High Final Gravity

I use amylase a lot as I like dry beers. Will probably drop to target gravity in a day or two - but don’t be surprised if it goes lower. I can send some today if you like.

    Protafloc - for all brews?

I do. For the money they are OK. And I really like the principle of conical fermenters particularly dumping the yeast to get clearer beer. However I have struggled with the plastic yeast dump/valve which is getting old and has a tendency to stick. So I personally wouldn’t buy again as I have...

    All Grain Lager Help

Well done foxbat. I find that quite a few of my lagers take a number of months to come good. I just leave them in the garden shed in the winter and forget about them. Which is kind of a version of what they used to do in German caves.😀

    New CML yeasts

I use CML Five yeast regularly. It takes off like a bomb and is often finished two to three days after pitching and never any off flavours. I cannot fault it. It is fast becoming my only yeast as it is so forgiving.

    Growing your own hops

Last year I pretty much ignored mine apart from providing strings for them to grow up. I plan to follow the same course this year. I did not prune the bines at all. I got a huge crop for the first year and they taste fantastic. The satisfaction you get from making beer with your own hops is...

    First Brew Questions

You sound like you are doing well! You can go ahead and bottle if you get two or three consecutive identical readings. However you will get better beer with a little more patience. The yeast will continue to work slowly clearing up after itself. So I would go with the 2-2-2 suggested. But I...

soaking in oxyclean shifts most stuff.

    Kveik

I found that when I pitched Voss at high temps it was great but at ambient temperatures it was somewhat ‘meh’

    Hop plants/rhizomes - growing report

This is my second year of centennial and cascade. I had a great crop last year. I think I am just going to let them do their own thing again this year.

Newbie to brewing, solo bottling woes

I have a conical fermenter and when the valve is working it makes a huge difference. With a tube and bottling wand attached to the yeast dump outlet gravity pushes the beer down and you can remove all the yeast and trub before you start so only clear beer to deal with and multiple hands not...

    Novatwist screwcaps

Could you not just collect wine bottles that already have screw tops - that’s what I do!!

    New member Syd88

Hi Syd88 Welcome to the forum- a good choice to start with. Not sure what the instructions say but don’t try to hurry it too much.

Where do I clip this (pic shown)

I think it’s a hose clip to clip on the side of your bucket to hold the siphon tube.
