    Wilko's Own Brand Cerveza.

Well, it's all made up. I used 1KG of Light DME in place of the sugar and Mangrove Jacks M54 Yeast. It's only been going a few days but seems to be fermenting OK at the moment, I'll leave for a good 7 - 8 days before I dry hop. I was thinking 50g of Saaz, hopefully that won't be...

    DIY Dog

Hi All, I've just downloaded the DIY Dog 101 Book and am keen to get started on a clone of one of their beers over the christmas break. However, there's a part on each recipe that say Twist For example Lactose 125g Middle Sour cherries 187.5g Middle I get what it is saying...

Does this sound like an infection?

If you are using cheap FV it might be worth while replacing them with new ones just to rule these out I guess. It might help narrow down the problem. Of course if you are using the all singing all dancing FV's then this isn't going to be an option :)

    Festival New Zealand pilsner.

Well, I've had this done and dusted for about a month now. And it is very nice. The first couple of bottles I had gave a really bitter initial taste but the aftertaste was very nice and hoppy. The bitterness has now faded and this is a very nice pint. I managed to drop the whole tray of...

    vwp and cleaning

Does it not leave any sort of discoloration to the FV? I'm starting to prepare for when I run out of Starsan so this could be an alternative. I've been unlucky enough to have this stuff put on me before an operation, from memory it smelt pretty strongly of iodine. Have you seen any off...

    Minimising losses

I've just bottled two 5L DJ's of Turbo Cider and only managed to get 8 500ML out of both. The rest was the gunk at the bottom. One of them came out at nearly 9% so 8 bottles of that is probably enough for now ;)

    Wilko's Own Brand Cerveza.

Thanks :) I'm not so sure on the yeast starter yet, I don't have any equipment for it. I was hoping to be able to use the smack pack and dump it in once it was expanded. If not I'll get a dry one for now and keep the wyeast for another time (when I'm able to get permission from her indoors...

    Wilko's Own Brand Cerveza.

Hi All, This is going to be my next (and 2nd ever) brew. I'm not sure if I'm running before I can walk but I was going to try and modify this a little. I have a packet of WYeast (2007 Pilsner) 100g of Saaz hops (pellets) and 1kg of muntons light spray malt to use in place of the sugar. What...

Festival New Zealand Pilsner - 1st Ever Brew

Well checked it last night and there's a nice malty smell in the airing cupboard, to be honest I'm not sure what a yeasty smell would smell like :) There's also what looks like a dirty foamy head in the bucket, I can't see it properly as it's not see through but it would appear something is...

Festival New Zealand Pilsner - 1st Ever Brew

Thanks a lot fellas. I'll let you know how it turned out :) Excited to try the final product!

Festival New Zealand Pilsner - 1st Ever Brew

Thanks for the advice, I wasn't sure if I was being impatient or if I didn't have enough water in the air lock or any other number of things to doubt myself on for a first timer :) I need to add some dry hops in 5 days I guess I'll see if there is the krausen there when I come to do that, if...

Festival New Zealand Pilsner - 1st Ever Brew

Hi All, Been lurking on these forums for a while now getting the courage up to crack on with my first home brew. Well last night I bit the bullet and I now have 23 Litres of Festival New Zealand Pilsner sat in my airing cupboard at a comfortable 20 - 22 degrees. I've been in and checked...
