    Robobrew V Hopcat

Hi Paul I ended up preordering the Robobrew 35l, as Angel Homebrew have had loads of good reviews, stating they communicate well and there is a mobile number too. Not so good for hopcat which is online only and poor communication observed. Have a look for reviews online and see what you think 👍

Brew No. 10. Pimped a Mad Millie Lager Kit to I what think will be more like a Pale Ale: - 2 x 1.3kg pouches of hopped LME. 100g Munich Malt - steeped in 67°C water with 500g light DME, then brought to the boil for 30 minutes. 10g Cascade at start of boil. Combined in the FV and topped up to...

    What did you brew today?

FG = 1.032, equals an ABV of 8%. Lost efficiency again, but practice makes perfect. Hopefully I'll see an improvement once I get my Robobrew-brewzilla-microbrewery. The 100g Tennesee Bourbon Barrel Oak Chips have been in for a week now, but need a bit longer. Maybe another week, then I'll add...

Mangrove Jacks American IPA. Did this in March and it was lovely after 3 weeks.

Solid crust of yeast in fermenter

This was solid like a cookie before I swirled the FV. Anyone had this before?

What do you think? Ignore the hop bag. This could be a PITA when bottling.

That's another week past and it appears that the yeast cake solidified into a crust of sorts. I gave the FV a shake, which broke up most of it, although there are parts about an inch wide that are still floating. Hmm 🤔. Still smells nice though. Has anyone had a solid layer on top before?

    * 175 Pint Giveaway * review thread.

Cool. I've just ordered this as B2B are now selling the two pouch kit for £10.95! Did you combine the two pouches and does each pouch have a bag of brewing sugar? The ad said sugar inclusive, but not how much. I was planning to pimp the combined pouches with a 30 min mash/boil of 100g leftover...

Agreed 👍. I expected the Kveik to clear up quickly, hence my doubts (impatience too!). Maybe it's slower as this is a stronger beer?

Hi guys, help me out here please. Is this a pellicle, or a yeast raft on my beer? That's a week in the FV now. Trial jar sample say the gravity is 1.030, which points to 8.3% ABV. Tasted nice enough, so I don't think it's infected. Thought kveik was meant to clean up sooner too?

    Belgian Beers to try?

I've tried ordering from their Dutch site instead of the UK site, as it's cheaper and has a better range but it won't recognise UK postcodes. I emailed them about this and they just told me to go to the UK site. Grr

Slight tang in stout. Grain or water issue?

That's what I wondered too Foxy. My Imperial Stout that's fermenting both used steeped dark grain and also kveik, so maybe it won't be astringent in comparison? Mind you it's a different beast to my current sweet stout recipe! I've got MJ M42 so I can use that to compare another time...

Slight tang in stout. Grain or water issue?

No problemo. It bugs me a little. I'll try a different yeast (kveik perhaps). Thanks Steve 👍

Slight tang in stout. Grain or water issue?

Hey Folks. I'm really enjoying my sweet stout, but it's the second (first being coopers original with added mashed crystal, chocolate and roast barley) that has a slight tang to it. I don't know if it's mashing the roasted grains instead of steeping? It's nice and I'll do it again, but I'd...

What are you drinking tonight 2020.

My own with what I had available. Scaled down from a BYO.com recipe with their hop proportions. 15 litres 1500g Lager Malt 750g Pale Malt 250g Munich Malt 200g Crystal Malt OG 1.044, ABV of 4.8% and IBU of 52. 5g of MJ m54 rehydrated.

What are you drinking tonight 2020.

My Cali Common (6 weeks old. Yum!), Hawkshead Golden Ale, followed by my own Sweet Stout (double yum. Although I should have put one sugar cube in the bottle not two: I have to keep swirling the glass to de-fizz).
