Lagering - Can I do it in a Corny!

My theory was that i could ferment my Helles by the end Feb, lager until the end March and it should be ready for a lovely sunny easter 🤞 And one last question, Would this brew benefit from a Protafloc (or similar) for the last 10 mins of the boil?

Lagering - Can I do it in a Corny!

Good evening all, I'm after advice please. I'm about to brew a BrewUK Lighten UP Helles lager AG kit. The instructions state to Ferment until complete then reduce temp to 3C for 4 weeks. Should I leave in the FV for this or should I put it in a Corny for this 4 weeks at 3c?

    What did you brew today?

Enjoyed a double brew day today. A Dark Rock All grain Kolsch and a Dark Rock Part Grain Cornish Rock IPA. Kolsch is bubbling away in the fermenting fridge and the Cornish is tucked away in a corner of the spare room - just out of view from work zoom calls.

    Beaverdale Chardonnay

This should be the final update on this project as we opened a couple of bottles last night. They were absolutely superb - something more prosecco than frizzante in terms of fizz. Very clean drinking, pleasantly dry and carbonation which remained as the glasses were drunk. Will look to make...

What kit beer are you drinking tonight?

Hi, It's a good shipyard copy but I wasn't as tight with the instructions as I could have been. This was the part grain kit - next time I will brew the all grain - probably for next summer as I have a few other DR kits to brew first. I'm near Lutterworth most of the time, just work in...

    Beaverdale Chardonnay

Just an update on this project. We have tried a few bottles this Christmas and I have given a few to family members for comment. The comments can be summarised as below; Good carbonation but it doesn't last more than 15 mins in the glass. I suspect I need to add a little champagne yeast when...

    Best ever witty response

20+ years ago I filled my diesel car with diesel at a fuel station in Telford. The cashier, thinking I had misfuelled my car as the diesel models were very rare, said "I didn't know they made that model in diesel" I instantly replied - "They don't, I just put in whatever is cheapest", smiled and...

    Beaverdale Chardonnay

So an unplanned update on this experiment. I went to open a bottle of SMASH IPA last night but must have mis-labelled the bottle! There was a big whoosh of gas (more than with beer) which alerted me that something was untoward. I poured the bottle into my expectant pint glass and realised that...

    Prosecco in a Corny Keg

I've made an Italian style frizzante from a Beaverdale Chardonnay kit and this has turned out really well. It's persuaded me that I should look to brew a Prosecco type wine for next summer - and keep it in a corny My plan would be to use a 30 bottle Chardonnay kit and ferment with champagne...

    BBQ.... REPLACEMENT REQ!

Another vote for this. I have had one for the last 2 summers and it is fantastic. I also have a charcoal kettle but this is now relegated to smoking duties.

    Beaverdale Chardonnay

Hi, It's not sweet - it is quite a dry wine, it's just a not quite so fizzy Prosecco with only Chardonnay grapes. The sugar is to promote a beer type bottle condition secondary fermentation and give the fizz. Tried the first bottle last weekend and it was promising - it just needs longer to...

    Beaverdale Chardonnay

Italian frizzantes are typically 7-9%, chardonnay and very drinkable. I brewed the kit as per instructions but stopped following instructions when fermentation completed. I just waited for fermentation to finish then bottled like a beer with 1tsp of sugar per 500ml bottle. Added 1ltr water to...
