    What did you brew today?

Cheers. I'll let you know how it goes. If it's anywhere near as good as it looks in the picture in your post, I'll be happy.

    What did you brew today?

A very smooth brew day today, brewing @foxbat's Fuggle Duck house bitter. Currently tucked away in the brew fridge @ 20°C.

    Erlenmeyer flasks

Well that went really well. I boiled 1.3ltrs of wort in the Erlenmeyer flask directly on a ceramic hob. Was a bit nervous and cranked the temperature up slowly so as to not shock it. But it went without a hitch. I cooled it in the sink over an hour and then added the yeast. It was so much...

What got you in to homebrew?

My first taste of homebrew was at a party about 10 years ago. Scotch ale from a king keg. I was pretty impressed (not sure what I'd make of it these days though). I got the basic kit for Christmas and made 2 very poor brews. I tried a wine kit, which was worse. I even gave some of the wine...

    Erlenmeyer flasks

@Oneflewover Your original post asked about gas and gauze, which I don't have. But tonight I'll try the Erlenmeyer flask on a ceramic hob, and get back with how I got on. It's a 3ltr flask and I'll only be doing a 1ltr starter, so the overspill issue may not be addressed properly. A bigger...

    Erlenmeyer flasks

Steve, does the flask get too hot to touch?

    Erlenmeyer flasks

Aha! I've never thought of 1 - sterilising my pot by boiling 2 - transferring the hot wort to the Erlenmeyer flask to cool. It'll be easier to cool in the flask than in the pot. Since my earlier post I've decided to buy a cheap pot which will easily hold a 2ltr starter, and not use it for...

    Erlenmeyer flasks

Unfortunately yeah. I hate having to use a pot which otherwise gets used for food. Been fine so far but I'm always afraid that it's not clean enough.

    Erlenmeyer flasks

I don't use it on heat. I wish I could but I'm wary. Apparently boiling wort in Erlenmeyer flask will cause a massive foaming and is very likely to overspill. Given that we're boiling a sugary liquid, a spill could be extremely dangerous. Would be interesting to see if anyone does use it on...

    James Morton - Brew

I think the body will change once carbonated. I think my FG was near 1.007 when I done TTP, but I don't remember thinking it was thin. 1.009 should be fine body wise

    Show us your beer.

They look two cracking beers, well done. It's a great feeling when it all goes well

    James Morton - Brew

I'm not really getting much citrus in my Undead Pale Ale. It's not overly hoppy, and I'd struggle to tell the hops were Citra in a blind test. It's really well balanced. Tbh the totally tropical is incredible. The Citra really shine through in it. You'll love it.

    James Morton - Brew

Just trying the Undead Pale Ale after 3 weeks in the keg. Cracking malty base, really like it. The hops (Citra) are a little muted but come through a lot more as it warms up. All in all another great recipe from James.

Which movie(s) have you watched recently?

Best films in recent years for me are Hidden Figures The Hateful Eight Hacksaw Ridge And (going back a few years), Apocalypto. Must also mention Alfred Hitchcock's Dial M for Murder. Such a clever film.

    What are you drinking tonight.

A bottle of Dupont Moinette Ambree. 8.5%. After the initial alcohol hit, and some warming up, it got better. Nice brew. Followed by Loch Lomond Inchmurrin 12 year old. A good night all round

SS Brewtech Kettle and elements for BIAB

I have the 10 gallon kettle and use a 3,000W buffalo induction hob. Would that be an option for you? They're powerful as hell. Would heat 15 gallons no problem.

    What did you brew today?

I brewed my first lager today, a Munich Helles from James Morton's book, using Imperial Lager Harvest yeast L17. Currently sitting in brewfridge no2 @ 10°C. I'm following James Morton's quick lager method which I think is pretty much the same as the Brulosophy one. I don't normally chase...
