No hop strainer in Peco EB1D mashing and boiling bin

I have Just purchased a Peco EB1D mashing bin. I will use it for both mashing and boiling. However, I see that there is no strainer to prevent soggy hops going through the tap into the fermentation bin. I don't have a hop spider and so I am thinking of using a largish nylon mashing bag to...

10L Pressure barrel pin valve or no pin valve?

Thanks for your help. I think I will be sticking with bottles.

10L Pressure barrel pin valve or no pin valve?

Sorry I thought you were using cornys. Do you know if a 10 litre corny would be o.k. for a 10 litre brew or does there need to be some SPACE? Also what does a 10 litre corny use for adding CO2?

What size corny should I get for 10 litre BREWS?

10L Pressure barrel pin valve or no pin valve?

I am about to purchase a 10L pressure barrel as I attempt a switch from bottles to barrel. However, I am not sure about what to buy. The barrel I am looking at has a vent cap that allows for the safe release of any excess gas in the keg. I am told that the barrel is so small that I shouldn't...

Chilling beer in a pressure barrel

I usually brew 11.5L of beer. What would be the right size PB for that volume?

Chilling beer in a pressure barrel

I’m interested to know how beer from a pressure barrel compares with beer from bottles. Is pressure barreled beer a little more like draught beer than bottled? Or would you say pressure barreled beer and bottled are identical?

Chilling beer in a pressure barrel

A friend of mine has recently started brewing beer. He decided to use a pressure barrel rather than bottles, but now with warmer weather he has a problem chilling the beer for drinking. Any ideas about how he can chill his beer? I’m also interested as I was considering a pressure barrel or...

Will dry hopping be worth it for me?

Thanks again. I will follow this process.

Will dry hopping be worth it for me?

Thanks for the correction. Two recipes that include dry-hopping is a very small percentage.

Will dry hopping be worth it for me?

Thanks, this is very helpful. I notice that Greg Hughes in his Home Brew Beer book does not include dry hopping at all in his recipes. Just for clarification, are you saying I start chilling and check the temperature until it reaches 80% and then put the "flameout" hops in?

Will dry hopping be worth it for me?

I don’t usually dry hop, but recently I have been inspired to do so in order to get a big hop aroma especially in IPA brews. However, I have also heard that the big aroma doesn’t last long in the bottle. Since I move through my brews quite slowly (approx 10-12 months for a batch) I am...

Size of Cornelius Keg for 11.5L batch

I am thinking about getting a Cornelius keg. I do 11.5L batches and would like to know what is the best size corney keg for that batch. I would do 10L batches if there is a keg more suitable for that size than 11.5. Would a 19L keg be too large for a 11.5L batch?

Brewer’s Friend came up with 231 IBU tinseth

I deleted my recipe from brewer's friend and created it again as a new one and the IBU came up as 56.35. However, it would appear that things are still a long way off according to brewer's friend.

Brewer’s Friend came up with 231 IBU tinseth

I thought I had solved the problem as I had the last two hop additions (22 grams each) set for the full 70 minute boil. However, I have corrected it to 0 minutes, but it is still showing 140.48 IBU

Brewer’s Friend came up with 231 IBU tinseth

The largest Alpha Acid count is for the 15 grams of Citra at the start of the boil. I've also checked all my settings in My Profile on Brewer's Friend and they seem o.k. However, there could be the problem. I am new to Brewer's Friend and all other software for creating recipes. Maybe I have...

Just checked on Brewer's Friend. The batch size is 11.5 litres (fermentor volume).

Brewer’s Friend came up with 231 IBU tinseth

I ran the recipe below for an 11.5 L batch through Brewer’s Friend and it gave me 231 IBU tinseth. Why would this IBU be so high? I have brewed this recipe before and it turned out great. You might say why bother if it turned out so well? Well, I am in the process of learning to use Brewer’s...
