    Help on 4.1% ipa brew

Unfortunately the density doesn't help all that much as mixing is surprisingly quick, but it isn't a problem except with super high hop saturation things in my experience. Neipa etc

    Help on 4.1% ipa brew

None of that would stop a fermentation. I'm pretty sure it's done then, 4 days isn't too bad really. Personally I would Chuck in the dry hops now, hoping for a bit of activity to flush out any o2, but it does depend a bit on what your plans are for it, and what it's doing now. If it's starting...

    Help on 4.1% ipa brew

Adding that much extra yeast will do nothing bad. I give you my big special Maximum guarantee. As to it showing no sign of activity, we talking airlock or have you looked inside to see that kreusen had fallen etc? I barely need you to answer that tbh. My advice is to leave it until you are good...

    A little advice

Pfft. I didn't get where I am today by making sure everything was unplugged before rummaging around with wires, or not bypassing safety cutout circuits with tin foil and melting fan heaters into a puddle of goo or not cleaning urns that are still plugged in in a bath of water or removing a...

    A little advice

I'm not saying it's the best possible option by any means but if it can provide enough heat to an object in the open environment it stands to reason it will certainly do the same to same object in a very efficiently sealed and insulated box.

    A little advice

That's not really how thermodynamics work. Heat is heat. If it's in an insulated box, ie fridge, the total heat of the system is the same wherever it is located. It might not be brilliant for bringing a cold bucket of wort up to temperature, but it will quickly bring the ambient temperature to a...

    A little advice

I'm pretty sure you'd be fine with a heat pad. I've never used one personally but really any energy source is fine. I use An old toasty machine at the moment, used to use a lamp with a tin can on it until the bulb went. Heat is heat. Fridges have good insulation. The only problem from a physics...

    multi-rest mashing

Looking at the beer i don't see why you would want such high body. Id change my earlier suggestion to a 66 c mash for an hr.

    multi-rest mashing

I agree it's a weird schedule. But i don't think it's saying the 72 is a mash out step. It seems to be targeting alpha, although it's high for alpha, and the first rest is also high for a pure Beta rest. I would get an stc1000 or inkbird digital controller and pump as suggested for future, but...

    Water Filter

Interesting. Id have thought it'd be too murky for much diving interest.. Not so bad in r months either. Blanket of white under blue sky today

    Water Filter

I like the idea, but tbh im pretty happy with the filters and membrane. Pretty sure I'd hit rock fairly quickly digging a hole although im basically on the bank of loch awe

% of bade malt in porter?

Id echo the above except i don't have a problem with the black and chock. No need for the carapils or flakedbarley.

    Water Filter

Yea it's good stuff. Our water used to be straight off an argyll spring, but now it comes out of a river that runs from a loch with a fish farm in it. And it's semi privately owned so the estate manager obviously pours a tonne of chlorine and such into it to kill all the nasties.. In fairness...

    Water Filter

Ro system. 120 bucks including pump 2 charcoal filters a sediment filter and a Ro membrane. Problem was i went from a super soft Scottish spring to chlorine overdosed pond water and noticed it too strongly. Couldn't even drink a glass of the stuff. It's ideal though, super easy to get any...

    Educate me about Saison

I have to say one of the best Beers in the world is Saison Dupont. Simple and elegant. I think they use 100 percent pilsner, but possibly not. As stated above you can make a great one with new world hops. Particularly for me centennial with Nelson goes great with Belgian Saison 1. If you want...

Damn pipped at the post! Glad you liked it though, its nice to know the months of patience is worthwhile. Particularly with weird things like that

Melanoidin and acid malt in NEIPA

So4 is ok. There is a long thread somewhere where people are trying to nail the treehouse yeast and the result is mostly so4 with some t 58 and possibly wb06. I'm not a huge fan of it personally. The homebrew company is good for me as they don't charge a fortune to the Highlands

    Feeling Hoppy

Day four is a good midway point. Shouldn't be much activity but still will be some. Then leave it alone and don't open the lid for another week or until you're ready to bottle.

    Feeling Hoppy

i would add the hops when it says to. different things happen to the flavour depending on when you add them, so i imagine the recipe calls for them to be added when there is still some active fermentation happening, known as biotransformation dry hop, which develops certain thiol flavours that...

Melanoidin and acid malt in NEIPA

i should also add that melanoidin malt varies in intensity/colour a fair bit. id go with a lighter variety as darker ones give a real chestnutty colour and toasty flavour. also you can get honey malt from a fair few suppliers here btw
