    Palisade Smash ?

Assuming a 23litre batch, that will give you around 4% ABV - from a target starting gravity of 1.041 Not sure what alpha acid your Palisade hops are, but default in Brewersfriend software is 7.5% alpha acid. Assuming thats about right you are only getting to around 19 IBU's of bitterness with...

    BIAB pale ale with Citra.

Nice write up and good pics - Freddie is cute ! Love all the C hops - Citra, Cascade Centennial et al. I also wear Crocs while brewing - elf and safety would have a heart attack but got away with it so far

    Ordering grain in advance

The maltmiller will supply 25kg of grain in 5kg sealed bags - so you can order 25kg of crushed grain but it arrives in 5 sealed bags each of 5kg. Helps to keep the pre-crushed grain fresh until you need it as its sealed in its own 5kg bag. There is a small additional charge of £3 per 25kg -...

    Plums......

Nearly ready to buy some homebrew supplies (grain etc) and thinking about my upcoming plum wine - is there a good wine yeast which would be good for use on the plum wine ? We tend to drink dry white wine when buying wine. I am a newbie to wine making so any advice on yeast selection would be...

New member, i think my first brew is 👎🏻

Worth putting the barrel somewhere a bit cooler like a garage/cellar, not necessarily a fridge, for another couple of weeks or more. Wherry is a good kit, good idea swapping the kit yeast for S-04 (the kit yeast has a habit of stalling/sticking before fermenting out fully), wherry does need to...

New member, i think my first brew is 👎🏻

It sounds like its carbed up so no leaks, its still quite young so I would pop it somewhere cooler for 2-4 weeks before trying it again. Don't right if off just yet as it will mature as it conditions and time can heal a multitude of issues ! What did you brew? Was it a kit ? Did you brew in...

    Bottling error!

You get stuff like that happen - always seems to come in two's or threes when things aren't going well ! Sure it will all be great once carbed up.

    Steven from Leeds

Eyup Stevie, Welcome to the forums. I'm from Wetherby so not far away, brewing all grain ales mostly here but just got some blackberry wine on the go and a small plum tree in our garden is just ripening off so plum wine is next on my list ! Happy brewing and again welcome !

    Plums......

Thanks, I think I've got some whole wheat in my cupboard (started crushing small amounts of grain/adjuncts myself for ales). If using whole grains of wheat, how much (as a ratio of plums used would be useful just for an idea) ?

    Plums......

I'm planning my first plum wine using plums off our little tree in back garden. I brew ales so could add some grain - what do you need to do with the grain, does it need mashing prior to adding or just crushed and then added as is to the must ?

    Spapro's Brewdays

Had a wonderful Brewday today - weather is brilliant and as a I brew half in and half out of my garage it makes a difference. Decided to do 'Mongrel Pale Ale 2' after version 1, made out of left overs last November, turned out to be my best brew to date! Today used the same grain bill but the...

    Fluctuating fermentation temperatures.....

What yeast you using? Us05 and gervin (Nottingham) will happily brew cleanly at 20C. Maybe you are trying too hard to keep it at 17/18c when you could get great results with a lot less stress maintaining 20/21c. I am sure one brewer on here uses gervin and gets great results up to 27c !

    First AG BIAB

This is a very nice 33l pot from the Maltmiller (I've had a 33l and a 50l from them and both were Bergland from Germany). https://www.themaltmiller.co.uk/index.php?_a=viewProd&productId=387 Its fitted with a bazooka filter which makes transferring to FV so much easier - leaves all the hops and...

    First AG BIAB

Sounds like you adjusted and dialled back well for the extra Alpha %. Sure it will turn out good, and bets of luck with your planned Cascade Pale. I love both Amarillo and Cascade, two of my favourite hops. Another good one is Galaxy - Fruit Cocktail but in a very good way !
