    Wort Chiller

If you want quick connect/disconnect worth looking at hozelock style connectors, B&Q blue work well, here is a shopping list (hope the links still work): I used metal hozelock connectors but in hindsight if doing it again would just use B&Q stuff as much cheaper. 2 x Brass 10mm to 15mm...

When you just feel like it...

Nice to see a workmate being used for brewing - would be lost without mine, one should come free with every electric stainless boiler imho !! Hope the brew goes well, bit strong for me but recipe looks good nonetheless

How to build a stir plate for less than ten quid

This was the fan I bought, mine had 3 cables on I think - but only connected 2 to the PWM controller. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12v-SATA-Molex-Connectors-Desktop-Internal-Cooling-Fan-For-PC-CPU-Computer-Case/310973307829?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&var=610344256334&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

How to build a stir plate for less than ten quid

See my posts on pages 18 and 19. Had exact same, exact same issue. Bought a new fan off different uk seller and all worked. Still stumped but fan was the issue even though worked fine when connected straight to live.

Pitching Temp and Effect on Flavour

I suspect it will be fine - I would have popped the wort in the brew fridge and then added the yeast once it got down to 20-21°C. Having said that the yeast will have only just woken during the hot temps so unlikely any off flavours developed in that very short time. Always worth giving a...

    Which CO2 injector equipment?

I would take a look at the Balliihoo kegs selection, I replaced my king keg lids with their lids and solved a whole lot of issues I was having with sealing on my king kegs - their lid seals are square section instead of the round section seals supplied with king kegs normally and I have found...

    1st AG brew

Assuming you have just scaled back the recipe from 23 litres to 13 litres pro rate then you should be good. What kit are you using ? what size boiler, and assume you using a mashtun (not BIAB) ? Assuming a mashtun, I would keep your first brew simple and just batch sparge - ie do your 1hour...

    Session IPA - summer beer

This is a nicely balanced grain bill for an IPA: 45% Marris Otter 45% Pilsner 5% Munich II (14ebc or similar) 5% Crystal (82ebc or similar) 4kg total grains should give you 4% assuming 23l batch size, mashed at 66-67 degrees centigrade. You can thank me in 6 weeks when you're drinking it!

    My Cornelius Keg adventure

My starsan goes cloudy within 6-12 hours of mixing using my tapwater but never had an infection - ph of 3 or under means its all good, my cloudy starsan solution has a ph of 2 and lasts ages before I mix a fresh batch up. I use 8ml of starsan for a 5litre batch of solution = 1.6ml per litre...

advice for new brewer- muntons cerveza

You will lose a little to trub/dead space when syphoning out etc so I would work with 19l x 6.5g = 123.5g so yes 120g is spot on. This is based on having your beer at 20°C or so - if you do cold crash you would need to use a calculator to calculate priming sugar as temp of the beer at...

advice for new brewer- muntons cerveza

If its an ale yeast you just do everything as per an ale - but using a bit more priming sugar for a lager style fizz. 140g - 150g table sugar for 22.5 litres is more than enough if batch priming for bottling at 20°C. Thats 6.5g of sugar per litre (3.25g per 500ml bottle) which will give a...

How to build a stir plate for less than ten quid

Bought a new fan and everything is now working - still stumped as to why the original fan would work direct to power but not through PWM ??? This fan I bought from a UK seller, arrived in 2 days and is 3 wire (don't connect the yellow wire to anything, just use the red + and black - wires)...

How to build a stir plate for less than ten quid

I think the polarity is correct, using the multimeter on the output connectors of the PWM, with red probe on + and black probe on - the multimeter reports 11.98v, if I swap the probes the other way round then I get - 11.98v (ie minus). So think polarity is correct. Really stumped !

How to build a stir plate for less than ten quid

Totally stumped now  Measured with multimeter, input into pwm is 12.02v and output to fan is 11.98v with dial turned right up. Dial turned right down output to fan is 1.5v. So pwm appears to be working correctly I think. Connected fan to power and it spins but wired back through pwm and...

Depends a little on specific Alpha Acid of your Mosaic hops, but assuming 12.5% which should be close enough .... The following gets you to around 40 IBU's: 60 mins boil: 15g 15 mins boil: 20g 5 mins boil: 20g 0 mins steep at flameout: 20g Dry hop 4-5 days before bottling: 45g The following...
