    Very low final gravity reading

I used to brew sugar wash from the recipe in the 90s style site below. Somebody called it "Ultimate booze" because it never caused a hangover. Used to go for around 11% and brew it in 5 litre water bottles. https://www.yobrew.co.uk/students_brew.php Skeeter Pee isn't that much different.

    Britains best homebrewer

It would get a one off BBC4 show, though. My friend who works in television was going to pitch a history of homebrewing idea before the 'event' happened. Possibly with Lucy Worsley as she's worked with her on a few things. I wanted Ruth Goodman. Think Ade Edmonson would have been the pick...

    Quick Bit Of Advice Please

Sometimes the disconnects can be slightly off size, but also the o-rings can be thin and not make a great connection. You could hook it off, put a turn of ptfe tape around the notch and then put it back. You really only need a tiny amount. Don't fill the notch with a twisted up bit of tape...

    Leaking tap

Yes, it'll keep leaking until there's not enough pressure to force it out. If you added priming sugar and it hasn't been in there long it'll keep dripping until it's almost flat again.

What are you drinking tonight 2021?

I had a Green Gecko from Lidl and it was effin gorgeous. The problem is that sometimes they're amazing, sometimes they're pure crap. Then had a Stateside IPA from Aldi - can for 99p 330ml and it tasted like it was exactly the same beer. It said it had citra, nelson sauvin, galaxy - all the...

    Recipe for a mild?

Nahh, that would just be brewing. If there's no fannying about and chance of ruining things I'm not on board. 200g of sugar should be enough. I'll invert it first. Might use some of that dark squishy muck for cakes.

    Recipe for a mild?

My mild above is at 1.024 and I don't think it's going any lower. When I mashed at 69 I thought I'll leave the induction on 200 watts to keep it warm while I sod off. It got up to 79 over the hour, and that's without any recirculation, so cooking down the bottom. So around 4% for 23 litres...

    Recipe for a mild?

Greg Hughes's book is just 84% mild malt, 14% dark crystal, 3% chocolate malt with 20g of Northdown @60 for 19.7 IBUs, 10g Bramling Cross at fleyymmm ooot. The recipe says it's 3.3% and 21.2 IBUs even though the hops don't add up to that. Yeast London Ale III.

    Recipe for a mild?

I've got a mild in with Vienna fermenting right now. I used Jamil's Through a Dark Mildly recipe but tweaked it a bit - this is the original Taste Notes: Jamil's efficiency in the book is giving 3.2% at 23 litres with 17 IBUs for 24g of EKG Ingredients Amt Name Type # %/IBU...

One pot all grain set up

30 possibly more. I boil 26 litres to the brim at 1000 watts. My boiler is insulated with foam from a setee held on with bungee cords which might help. I mash in a plastic fermenter with a stainless pan lid at the bottom as a heater, one of those fold out steamer things on top as a false...

    What would boil quicker/cheaper

I check the smart meter when I'm brewing. Last brew day a few days ago with no assist from the solar panels cost spot on a quid for a 23 litre batch using induction and my peculiar setup. When the solar's been raging I've had the brew day cost as little as 30p.

1m to 1.5m distance from fridge to lager tap

Use corny kegs and gas. That distance is nothing. If something like that is a corny keg then yes. Don't waste your money on those over-expensive toy kegs.

    What would boil quicker/cheaper

Induction will be 90% efficient, gas is about 40% efficient. Propane is going to cost a fortune compared to electricity. I've also got my boiler and mash tun mega insulated with foam and stuffing from a setee. I couldn't do that with gas. I had a go but the fire and toxic smoke made me give...

    Newby Errors........advice from Not-Newbys

Just make up the sugar priming solution now and pour it into the barrel, or if it's bottles you could dose them with sugar individually with 1/2 teaspoon of sugar.

    Commercial coupler to corny keg

Yes! It's so weird because when I read the thread first I knew what they meant, then did a search to see if you could easily buy a cleaning socket and when I came back my memory had reset and I was like whahhh? Anyway it'll be easy to fit the corny keg to the cleaning socket because they've...

    Commercial coupler to corny keg

Google "Sankey cleaning socket" it's got John Guest fittings built in and a doddle to attach to a keg. No idea what this ball stop and thread thing are.
