    Peated Beer?

Thank you, you might well be right! IT did mention peat on the label though I remeber that.

    Rescuse My Stout

When I made the first batch I hadn't had good activity when priming. I added 150g or 200g sugar I think. So the first batch I made had a far bit of priming sugar left unfermented when I started cold conditioning. Then ext batch which I did ferment out fully during priming wasn't really as nice...

    Peated Beer?

I one had a bottle of reasonably light colour beer that was peated and had a define hint of whisky. I unfortunately don't remeber what it was! I recently made a rauchbeir with smoked malt and it was lovely, but not the same as the peated flavour. Can anybody give a recipe recommendation for a...

    Rescuse My Stout

The dark malts I needed are now available again. Can I not make a small batch of just the dark malts and ferment them and add to the keg? Maybe add a bit of pale malt to help the diawhatitcalled power?

    Rescuse My Stout

Oh wow, I didn't realise husk was responsible for bitterness. Is that the case for all malts? Is there a link where can I learn more about that? This is not just a colour thing... I think.. bias what it is. It doesn't have the body and sweetness to balance the bitterness. I've never done a...

    Rescuse My Stout

So... when I was able to place a Malt Miller order last time I wanted to make 'Rob's Stout' which is one of the recipes they host. I've made it twice and it's superb, especially with a touch of unfermented priming sugar for sweetness. However, two of the ingredients were out of stock...

    Bottle Carbonation Not Working

I have done a bit of experimentation. I have found that if I use Wilko Beer finings in fermenter before kegging and priming, it doesn't want to play along. Wilko finings is not gelatin, it is Chitosan - some kind of product from chrustations. I don't know if it has some reaction with the yeast...

Breweing right now - Have a question

Thanks for the confirmations I'm not nuts! I don't think the recipes are bonkers, they just don't come out like their products do. I have now brewed 3 kegs of this recipy, with a few tweaks here and there just to see what it does. The results are excellent! I would say the dry hopping is spot...

    Time to make alcohol!?

P.S. regarding StarSan I'm Just thinking about if things get tough. I have enough concentrate make a good many liters of sanitizer.

    Time to make alcohol!?

Thanks for all the info. There does seem to be a lot of misinformation about sanitizers. For a start, is soap really more effective than alcohol if you are not actually washing hands, but using it just as a leave-on hand treatment? I would guess not, but dunno. I read a news article saying...

    Time to make alcohol!?

Wow, I had no idea it was illegal! Thanks for letting me know. I do have a professional distillery near me and I can't help wondering if they are gearing up to make pure alcohol for the apocalypse.

    Time to make alcohol!?

What is the reason for this?

    Time to make alcohol!?

Then Starsan should work well? Its acid, right?

    Time to make alcohol!?

Hey guys, So hand sanitizer is sold out everywhere and isopropyl alcohol prices are through the roof because people want to make sanitizer. Can we help out local communities with our experience making alcohol? What would be involved in making minimum 60% abv ethyl alcohol?

    Bottle Carbonation Not Working

Yes, I've realised this is the answer for me! I used to 'cold crash' at about 10C, then keg and move to normal room temp about 18C. The keg would pressure up within about 3-4 days. A while ago I got a dedicated beer fridge and I'm now cold crashing at 3.5C. I think this lower temp seems to...

adjustable flow taps connected to ball lock on keg

I have those same taps but connected via about 1m of 8mm ID line. If it's foamy, I reduce the flow and it does help a lot. Usually no problems with keg around 10-15psi.

    Saving CO2?

Ahh a foil balloon! I had considered a balloon but knew it would leak. I could purge another keg... if I had more than one empty at a time, lol. I've got to keep rusty turnaround going! I have an air compressor... maybe I could find a way to feed the co2 to the inlet and pressurise another...

    Saving CO2?

After a keg is empty, it is of course full of CO2 at a reasonable pressure. Any tips on saving this somehow? Seems a shame to let it all out, but of course the keg needs to be opened for cleaning.

    Your Best DIY Equipment?

I was thinking of making a stand for the grain bag. Can't really weld stainless right now as that needs Argon gas and I have CO2.

    Your Best DIY Equipment?

Thank you! Unfortunately my water boiler has a 28cm internal diameter.. I ordered one of the Klarstein grain sacks. See how it goes with a stand to hang from. I did buy a mig welder a few months ago..
