    Problem pressurising Corny kegs

Okay - got pressure on dials immediately again when I open the valve on the cylinder. However, none I’m the keg. If I close the valve again, pressure drops to zero on broth dials in a few minutes. Could I have a leak?

    Problem pressurising Corny kegs

Hi all! Right - I have never used corny kegs before. Just got CO2 yesterday and attached my new regulator. Straight off, I could see my master cylinder pressure on my first dial (600psi) - brilliant. I attached my gas line to the corny and managed to get 30 psi registered and the release valve...

Coleman Xtreme 50qt Mash Tun Conversion

Good evening! I am returning to AG brewing after a loooong break. Used to be on here with a different username. Anyhow - old HLT and boiler are still working a treat having tested. But….I am now converting the Coolbox I got ages ago to a Mash Tun and a little worried. I got a 50qt Coleman...

    Brewing with Elderflower

I am thinking about making a beer with elderflower when the time comes, as we have tons of elder outside our house. I was just wondering how you go about it, as they are infested with wild yeast? Is the best strategy to shred the flowers off, leaving the stalks behind, and then freeze them...

    Bargain Beer Cooler,What next?

I have never used one of these, but I would fill a cornie full of percarbonate first and pump it round and through all of the inputs/outputs that I could on that cooler to clean it out. Then I would flush it and finally, maybe, pump some Starsan, or HPPA or similar sanitiser to make sure it's...

Do I need a starter for high OG wort?

Reading this thread further, maybe I didn't do mine well. I added 100g DME to 1L water and pitched the White Labs yeast into it. I swirled round every time I passed it for the first day to keep oxygen levels up. Then I left it for 3 days just at room temp. There was a lovely creamy layer at...

Do I need a starter for high OG wort?

Hi! Just looking for a bit of advice and probably reassurance! I did a brew yesterday and pitched Irish Ale yeast (WLP004) that I had ramped up using a starter. The OG is approx. 1060. I had cold-steeped some grains but stupidly forgot to add the strained liquid to the boil, so had to boil on...

AG#3 - Event Horizon (Robust Porter)

All done. Bit of a problem at the end, as I realised once it had been chilled that I hadn't added the stuff I had cold-steeped! I boiled it up separately on the stove for 10 minutes, then put that in the FV before emptying the boiler. Warmed the yeast up a bit, but didnt realise how hot the...

    Cold Steeping

BUGGER! Just cooled my wort ready to put into FV and realised the cold-steep liquor is still in the fridge! Am boiling it on the stove and will add to the FV first before emptying the boiler into it. Will that work? What a silly sod I am!

AG#3 - Event Horizon (Robust Porter)

Getting this brewed today! Came back from school run this morning to find I was at strike temp, so doughed in and away we went. Had to split the day in half due to other jobs on the go, so now the kids are in bed I am boiling. Rolling boil at 7.10pm with 90 min hop addition. Just...

    Cold Steeping

There are two advantages - it reduces the bitterness that very dark grains can impart, so gives a smoother flavour - AND - it reduces space in the mash tun ; ) I'm after a bit of space-saving but was mainly keen to try the 'smooth' profile that this technique is supposed to give. Just an...

    Cold Steeping

Hello! I am brewing tomorrow, but am planning on cold steeping my dark grains today. Problem is, in Gordon Strong's book he states a 1lb grain : 2 quarts mix. Elsewhere on the internet, it is suggested you should use 3 times as much grain as you would in the mash, but Gordon doesn't say that...

AG#36 Finally cracked it......... Punk IPA

WLP001 is the same strain as Safale US-05, you just need to rehydrate the dry yeast, and make a starter if required for a bigger batch.

    Stay Out Of The Light!

Okay! Was worried I might have skunked them! Actually, it was 12 days, but now In the freezer : )

    Stay Out Of The Light!

Bought some vacuum sealed hops in clear pouches, and accidentally left them in a tiled fireplace in indirect light and a room at 17C for 9 days or so. Is this going to have spoiled them, or should I replace them?

    How's this one going, chap?

    Jamie Oliver

It was good, and obvious that the Belgians were going to win. They were bloody rude about English beer; the 'public' on the Eurostar, I mean. Grrrr!

    Pacific Jade

I've found a recipe that uses Pacific Jade, but, as I already have a freezer full of other hops, I wondered if there was a close substitute I could use instead? PJ imparts citrus and freshly ground pepper appatently.

    Fun at 40 Blew

Your HLT and boiler must be absolute monsters! Or do you brew inside? Good luck with the damage, I know how much hassle burst pipes can cause.

    Christmas isn't complete unluess you . . . . .

Oh no! The painkillers take a little while to kick in, but Tramodol is great stuff. A speedy recovery to Mrs. Aleman!
