Melanoiden is a tricky malt to get balance right in your recipe....quite powerful stuff and easy to overdo it. Given that an American Lager is very neutral light bodied beer I personally might avoid the use of Melanoiden at all in such a beer and perhaps limit it to malty continental styles...

If the judges email address is on the scoresheet you could try sending them a copy and ask them to decipher. I did this once and the judge was perfectly happy to do so.

We did not use those scoring sheets today. We used a "Fast-Scoring" sheet which consists of more tickboxes to highlight sensory perceptions of the beer and have a lot less space for written feedback. Judges will attempt to write some feedback but it might not necessarily be as comprehensive as...
