    Homebrew Beer Myths

The temptation for me used to be having a really cold beer but recently coming round to the idea that having it slightly warmer is a better idea and you can actually taste what you are drinking and appreciate it a bit more.

    Best lager kit

Anyone done the Mad Millie on offer at Brew2Bottle? Just chucked mine in the FV the other day.

    BIAB setup

I use the 19L pot as well but normally start with around 16 litres of water which is much more safe from a H&S point of view as it gives a fair bit of space at the top to avoid boil overs. Must admit though, I am starting to find it a bit of a pain doing so much work just to to end up with...

    Buying Beer Online

Decent shop to be fair with a good selection of booze but if it is something that one of the larger shops sell as well then you will pay a fair bit more in G and M for the same thing. They sell some of the local brews like Windswept and the Keith Brewery stuff.

    Buying Beer Online

G&M beer would be a struggle on furlough rate wages! I'm sure they add something on to your bill just for walking around that shop!

    Carbonation issue

Thanks all, I will bring it back inside for a while. It is in glass bottles with about half a teaspoon of sugar in each.

    Carbonation issue

Finished an IPA brew just over a month ago. It was sitting in the house in the warmth for a couple of weeks then I moved it to the garage in the cold for another two weeks but when I opened the first bottle last night it did not have much fizz to it. Will it get better just leaving it in the...

Brewer’s Friend came up with 231 IBU tinseth

Thanks folks - I'll take a look at this later and let you know. Also, as I am using hop pellets should I be using the same weight as I would using regular hops? 🤔

Brewer’s Friend came up with 231 IBU tinseth

Needing some help with the Brewers Friend calculator. I am trying to scale down a Dead Pony Club receipe but when I put all the ingredients in I only get an IBU of around 15 instead of 35 which is what BrewDog come up with. Can anyone explain why that would be? Changing the hop amounts does...

    The Coronavirus thread.

Pretty harsh on the employers that the government are planning to amend the rules for SSP. SSP is not reclaimable by employers from the government so all this will do is push the cost on to businesses.

    Coopers Irish Stout

Blackbeer, what is the trick to getting a decent head on this beer. I made it once and used the Coopers beer enhancer. The beer tasted good but the head disappeared a couple of minutes after pouring a bottle and I found myself with 40 bottles that looked more like Cola than Guinness.

    Bottling... blimey,

Beeblebear - I normally used a FV without a tap but firstly siphon into a bucket with a tap which I then attach a bottling wand to for the actual bottling process. The bottling wand makes a massive difference. I think everyone has their own technique with the priming but I tend to just put...

got to love how people get so worked up about sterilising everything then brew the beer right next to the bog!

    Top things to improve brews

Yep patience. Made a beer in mid November to drink over Christmas and it was decent enough over the festive period but now into mid February and the few bottles I still have left taste much better and the beer just looks much clearer. Once you've made it, it is so hard to just leave it alone...

    Yeast

Can anyone advise how important the quantity of yeast is in all grain brews? I prefer to do smaller batch brewing so I end up with maybe 10 litres of beer in the end but the packets of yeast normally cover bigger batches so I only use part of the packet. Is this important or what would be the...

Mrs Brown's Boys - the worst comedy ever made

Two doors down is fantastic. Not sure if it is UK wide or just in Scotland. Very un-politically correct and no good if you are easily offended but very funny.

    What are you drinking tonight.

Hop House 13. After seeing all of the tv adverts I wanted to see what all the hype was about. This stuff is disgusting......sorry Guinness because I love the black stuff but this lager is just horrible. Only time I have been sorely temped to pour a beer down the sink. Still have one bottle...
