Opinions on 23l rhubarb wine recipe please

I would agree that is not enough rhubarb, i use 2.5kg for 5 litres so i would be looking to use at least 10kg for a 20+ litre batch. Never made a rhubarb wine batch that size yet though. I never freeze rhubarb but i do soak it in the water/sugar mix for a week before straining and fermenting...

    Bang goes another hydrometer

After getting through a few in a similar way myself i remembered that back in the 80s i had a boots plastic one. Did some searching on ebay and found one, no more broken glass. there is one on the bay right now...

    Rhubarb and Apple Cider

Most likely it will. The trouble i have occasionally had with rhubarb is that it can ferment by itself unless you bung in a campden to kill of the natural yeast which can give the finished item an odd taste.

Home brew sparkling wine / prosecco clone

Interesting that's given me a thought, i may try it in a mini keg with a pinot grigio. I have had a few goes at making something like Prosecco using various wow recipes but haven't got close enough to the real thing yet. There are several threads on the forum just search for "prosecco".

Bag in a box for white wine

Yes push the tap in two clicks rather than three and its much easier to remove.

Bag in a box for white wine

You can reuse the box until it falls apart then tape it up and use it some more. They are all similar so i just buy the cheapest. I reuse the bags two or three times sterilising between uses then replace them.

Bag in a box for white wine

Yes i use them and have stored wine in them for over a year with no obvious issues. I tend to use 5L and 10L anything more gets heavy. I also store them in trays - just in case of leaks, not had one yet though. Cost depends on size but if you are willing to buy 10 minimum then this supplier...

    Beaverdale versus WineBuddy

Good question, i don't bottle i bag and box but i always get 4 full 5 litre bags with the cellar 7 kits. I don't brew short with beaverdale or CC kits, they seem fine as they are.

    Beaverdale versus WineBuddy

Hardly surprising really given Beaverdale is a 7.5 litre kit vs WB which i recall comes with 1 litre of juice albeit in a handy re usable bottle. I tried all sorts of mods to improve the WB red kits but in the end gave up and tried Cellar 7 which comes with 5 litres of juice and brewed short...

    taking hydrometer readings

Spin the hydrometer in the liquid and any air or CO2 bubbles should be centrifuged away.

    Turbo cider, how much yeast?

Yes a full 5g sachet for 25 litres or thereabouts is fine.

    Turbo cider, how much yeast?

One teaspoon of each will do fine.

No 'racking' in wine kit instructions.

Seems odd they do not mention racking at least once when the fermentation has finished. Not seen that on any kit i have used. In the very very distant past (when dinosaurs ruled the earth) i left wine that had fully fermented out in a demijohn for a couple of weeks or more. i did that...

    Kenridge Kit Help - Filtering?

I use Kenridge classic kits with oak and sometimes berries etc depending on what comes with the kit. On the first few kits i followed the instructions to the letter - racking multiple times and filtering which seemed a little excessive to me. These days i just let them ferment out, check...

    Bag in box

Yes go for it. I have stored that way for more than a year, works well for me. Bagged up 20 litres of Shiraz last night much quicker than bottles, also starting to avoid bottles with beer these days by using mini kegs. Of course you do have to drink it once you start the keg.......hovever...

    Oak chips ?

Tried French and American could not detect any difference, in fact some kits seem to come with Oak powder (saw dust) rather than chips - very odd.

    'Tips' from a Newbie

Good effort. Point 1, cling film works and is less messy, not that i bother using that or anything else to seal the fermenter these days. I think i must have developed close to the pinnacle of lazy brewing, i don't care if i see bubbles or not, i simply check with a hydrometer after a...

Funky Bag in a Box Dispensers

Yes plus £14 postage very expensive thats why i ended up buying a barrel. The "seasonal colours" version of the fiduz sells for £40 in Denmark so a hefty mark up on price for the uk market

Funky Bag in a Box Dispensers

The wine is in a bag inside the container so it wont go off any time soon. I have stored wine in bags for over a year with no problems.

Funky Bag in a Box Dispensers

They look good but a bit low to put a glass under. I like the Fiduz with its built in drip tray but its expensive in the uk. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00DZVO1FQ/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20
