Help needed with newbie recipe idea.

I've made a Cerveza. It is a very bland beer. For one thing. I never add sugar / dextrose to Lager type beers. I just add malt. Sugar will give you more alcohol but thin the beer. Going from when I've tried adding things to beer & cider in the past I'd say your half of orange peel will not make...

    Carbonation drops question

Do you use a bottling wand? If so just fill the bottle to the top. Then removing the wand from the bottle will leave a headspace. That's how I do it.

    Garden Centres

It will be interesting to see what happens with the tomatoes. The question of doing this was raised on a gardening show on the radio the other week. They said the fruit/vegetable that grow may not necessarily be the same as you bought in the shop. I can't remember the reasoning behind it. In...

    The Coronavirus thread.

Define "PPE" I was referring to the PPE that is worn in hospitals when dealing with Covid 19 patients or when doing elective surgery. My partner works for a surgeon. Operations will start again this week. So therefore we must have enough PPE. One of the reasons elective surgery was stopped was...

Yes, it does appear strange. We had the same in Australia. Mining Magnate goes to China and uses his contacts to buy 10 million covid 19 test kits. Not sure why we need 10 million but hey ho. OK so he sells a shitload of iron ore to China. But how does he have contacts that the government...

    The Coronavirus thread.

Well, there was a woman on the radio this week. She'd booked a cruise on the Ruby Princess. Probably the source of most of Australia's victims. I can't remember exactly when the cruise was for. A few months time I think. She was confident the ship would be clean and there would be no issue. A...

Anyone else restrict their alcohol intake by doing this...?

Drinking alcohol seems to jump generations in my family. My Mum & Dad hardly drank. One of my Grandads could put them away. I only have a vague idea on how much a unit of alcohol is, and there's no way I'm counting. No way could I get to 50. I don't have a strict wife either. Still next week...

    Another newbie for the list

Oh, yes. Not in Bristol though.:laugh8:

Anyone else restrict their alcohol intake by doing this...?

This is exactly my situation at the moment. Just put a work shirt on though. Either I'm going to have to cut down the beer or get bigger shirts.

    Coopers DIY Kit

I take a sample and leave it in the beer fridge with hydrometer in place, next to the FV. You can see it drop over the days. It won't be exact but saves taking loads of samples. I rarely take a final sample. Two weeks in the FV at 18-20C, it's done. I know from fermentables I add roughly what...

    Snoring

I wonder if I got my missus a CPAP machine she'd change into a different person. Might have to consider that. They were talking on the radio yesterday about people having problems sleeping at the moment. Apparently having very vivid dreams and being able to recall them next day is very common...

    Dry Hopping Coopers European Lager

I was fermenting mine at 13C, but with two packets of yeast. If you read the reviews of the Euro Lager on this site you'll see a few people have had problems fermenting it that low with one packet. I now tend to ferment mine at about 15C. I can't tell any difference in taste really. Another...

    Dry Hopping Coopers European Lager

This is a good beer, but as WarryM says you need to wait a while before you drink it. I think Coopers say three months. I've made it a few times. I've used Saaz & Citra. I've dry hopped it after 5 or 6 days in the FV. Also I've tried a hop tea when bottling.

I agree with this. I've got to the point where last Christmas I sent emails to people explaining they won't get cheap pieces of cardboard with Christmas wishes printed on them as I'd given $50 to the Koala Hospital and $50 to a wildlife rescue charity.

And yet in Australia they said on the radio earlier it was younger women getting it. Probably because they traveled overseas and socialised more. I reckon my hands have been bleached with the amount of washing I've done in the last two weeks. Told the boss I wouldn't be surprised to come up...

See, once again. The economy is more worrying than the virus to you. Yes I know the economy is rooted, so yes I am concerned about it, but I'm also very concerned about the virus. I'm an essential service so I'll be fine, but I'm very concerned about the vulnerable in society that won't be able...

No not confused at all. Don't tell me what I'm thinking. I know exactly how the economy works. But your original post said you were more concerned about the economy or something like that. I can't be bothered to go back and check. Really if your post had said you were concerned about the...

I know very little about the AFL, but I thought everybody hated them. Just jumping on the bandwagon. Even the septics love the AFL now.
