Cherry Sauce in a Simply Export Stout

It's been a while since I thought about adding stuff like this, but from memory the Potassium Sorbate might kill the yeast. Some of mine didn't ferment even after boiling.

    kit yeast

I use the S04 yeast too. I save the trub after fermentation and re use the yeast. After having a couple of failures I've put down a couple of brews using kit yeast. I did as Rodcx500z says and used two kits yeasts. Gone off like a rocket. This is for a Morgans kit. You've only recently got...

New range of kits from Muntons arriving in the spring

Coopers have released their version of this type of kit too. Advanced Recipe Packs. https://www.diybeer.com/au/brewing-extracts/advanced-recipe-packs.html Good, if you're into this type of thing. I don't think it's for me. I tend to buy the ingredients separately. The Muntons Milk Stout is...

    Bottle colour

Yes I do a couple of bottles in clear. See how it's clearing and check the colour. I have green bottles that I was going to get rid of, but I find it easy if cider & lager are in green. Ales, Pale Ales etc in brown. Mainly so I can easily tell what's in the fridge. All my beer is kept in the...

    Coopers Original Stout Review

1010 sounds right. The majority of my beers don't go below that. But, it hasn't been in the FV very long has it? Leave it a few more days. Although it's done people tend to leave there brews in the FV for 10 days or so. They seem to say it's so the yeast can clean up.

Yeast Rehydration - Do you? [POLL]

Yes & No. I tend to ditch the kit yeast and use Saflager yeast. US 05, S 04 or a Lager yeast. The first time I use it I rehydrate. Then I save the yeast from the trub and put it in a jar in the fridge. When I use the reclaimed yeast in the jar, in it goes as is. Having said that I've had a...

    Coopers Original Stout Review

Not much. As Arcs said. Take a gravity reading. When you take a gravity reading don't throw the sample away. Leave it next to the FV with the hydrometer in. Saves taking samples and you should see the hydrometer drop over the days. Just because there are no bubbles doesn't mean it's stuck...

    Virgin Brewer making first cider.

Thread really needs moving to Wine, Cider, Mead and Kombucha Discussion Plums if the thread doesn't get move make another thread in the above link. Explain what you've done. You're a bit vague in the OP. What cider are you making?

    beginners kit

Yeah, fair enough if that's what you want to do. To be honest I'm happy with the 20 litre batches I do at the moment. Four or Five years off retirement. Then maybe I'll contemplate all grain.

    beginners kit

You don't have to jump from Kit & Kilo to all grain. The majority of my brews I steep 250 grams of carapils or crystal grain. I only use light dry malt extract, not dextrose or sugar. Add at least 50 grams of hops. Saflager yeast. Temperature control. I'm happy with my beer. I don't have the...

    beginners kit

What have you been doing with your kits so far? Just the kit and a kilo? If you just use a kit and kilo it's not much of a jump up to steep some grain and add some hops. That's what I do and it's much better than just a kit and kilo. Tell us what you've done so far please.

    Covid-19 the second wave.

In Australia we're even testing the beer.

    Conflicting Instructions

I couldn't tell you why but I'm 99% sure it doesn't work like that. There's a bloke on the Coopers forum who is very keen on this kind of stuff. Even bought himself a microscope. To be honest it's a bit beyond me what he does and I don't pretend to understand it. I generally use a saflager...

    Conflicting Instructions

I haven't done a Lager in a while, but I don't recall too much noticeable activity. The lager yeasts are bottom fermenters. I think with one packet of yeast 15 degrees is about the lowest I'd go.

    Conflicting Instructions

Yes, I agree with the under pitching. I made a Cooper European Lager and the recipe said two packets of yeast. I bought 2 packets of Saflager yeast, but I could have just bought one and used the kit yeast. The kit yeast for that one is a lager yeast. I think it's the Coopers European Lager...

    Conflicting Instructions

There is a list of what yeast comes with Coopers beer kits. But that one isn't on the list. I think this Lager was added after the initial new flavours came out. I might write to Coopers and ask exactly what yeast is with the kit. DIY Beer Brew Cans - Yeast Details Personally I tend to use two...

    St Peters Cream Stout

No problem. Maybe get one of those scoops and use dextrose / sugar next time. Experiment a bit till you get what you think it the correct carbonation for a stout. My friends like my stout how it is, but according some on the forums it's overcarbonated for a stout. Each to their own.

    St Peters Cream Stout

I would have left them for two weeks in a warm place. I'm not sure about those carbonation drops you're using but to me one isn't enough in a 500ml bottle. I know some people say to halve the priming rate for stout, but I tried it once and wasn't convinced. Personal choice. I bulk prime and I...

How many mince pies and Christmas puddings have you eaten so far this December

None. I don' t like them. Edit..... don't like Christmas pudding either. I used to have a dollop of clotted cream for dessert. Not that keen on Christmas cake either. Wow that Buffers brewery :laugh8:

    Morgans Beer Kits

Tell your Hubby I was up on the roof this morning putting up the Christmas lights. Luckily I was just finishing off what I started yesterday. 38.8 Celsius! It's going to hotter at the weekend.
