    Asbestos

Served aboard two different naval vessels that had it for hull/deck insulation and sound dampening in the late 70s when they were removing the stuff. Precautions taken during those evolutions, but still hold my breath (pun intended) every time the subject comes up.

    Hello from Colorado, USA

We have migratory folk in my congregation from all over the US & Canada. They start appearing in late October and are gone by late May. The rest of us hide in caves generally built & equipped for the doldrums. For July-Sept 37-49°c. The entertainment comes with the 'monsoons' which drive the...

    Hello from Colorado, USA

Greetings from the wilderness of Arizona. (south of Phoenix) Great bunch of folk here. I can offer translation assistance as well, since I'm married to a British girl who got me into brewing >10yrs ago so I would stop complaining about "crappy American beer". Come south when ya get fed up...

Would you like to be 18 again?

18? Absolutely not. The idea of going back, knowing what I know now simply means that life gets to chew more of my a66 all over again only for different reasons. I'll stick with my current happy-reminiscing over the good stuff.

    Engineer or Ingeniator?

It works with computers, cars, & motorcycles too. But not an adorable method to fixing stuff. I enjoy the Christmas lights that allow for more than one burn-out, but trouble- shooting those is more problematic by the time that section goes dark.:?:

    Engineer or Ingeniator?

Agreed. I received a BSc in Computer Science where physics, chip design, systems architectures, and internal design was the focus. (As well as machine code and why/how that functions within the internals.) Now those folk who swap out components one-at-a-time until the problem is fixed, are...

Back to Kit Brews for a while

I think all of my reasons for extract brewing have been given. Not sure if equipment costs have been mentioned though, but time allocation is a big one for me. I've never used pre-hopped extract. That would seem to take virtually all the flexibility and option out of what beer to brew. Yet...

    What did you brew today?

Thanks, although it's changed color, that was a gift-to-self when I retired from the USNavy in '97. Plus it helps with the 'nut-job' persona. Oh, and the kitchen is much more space than the missus and I have had in our 37 yrs together. No 'new babies' in the future for this house, but...

    What did you brew today?

Oops! That's not the normal place that gets placed when I come in, but I was so intent on getting the bottling done.... Ah well, now folks can make all their incorrect assumptions about me as a religious-nut, gun-totin' yank.

    What did you brew today?

Two cases of AZ Red Rock ESB in the bottle! (4.5abv) Hopefully it will clear a bit more, but the uncarbed illustrates it will be a good'un. First batch for this kitchen.

Do you scrape off the pre-boil foam?

I have not, but since coming to the desert I've had more issues with that foam boiling over as extract is added. (Causes issues with my gas cooker.) What do folks use to skim it off? Just your stir-paddle?

    What did you brew today?

LOL... Sorry @moto748 .... Light dry malt. (Having so much fun chasing ground squirrels, I didn't see this when you asked!)

    What did you brew today?

First batch in the new house (thus new water source). Cooked & started last week. Tuesday/Wednesday will see move to secondary & dry hoping. ESB - I believe my supplier calls it Red Rock because it's meant to be fashioned after one from Red Rock Brewery in Salt Lake City, Utah. (Although Red...

    Family car recommendations?

We've had the entire range. Small economies, mid-range, minivans (family buses), small & large pickups, and now crossovers. The Lady of the house prefers the crossover because she doesn't like looking out the window at grills'n'headlights when driving in traffic. I ended up in crossovers...

    Easy Keg how good

Because of scheduling, I don't have opportunity to brew as often as I like, so I limit my weekly intake to stretch the 20L batch out. I currently don't have a kegerator (just purchased a house, so that purchase will be at a distance). Yet, I might could convince the missus for a fridge shelf...

    Windows 11 is Coming.

Got into systems engineering with PDP & VAX/VMS when as PCs were just getting harddrives. Survived 2000, but had life get sucked into MS/Exchange before its worldwide roll out. I mourned the power-down of my Alpha cluster. Before entering the ministry I worked for a small Siemens Co that was...

Welcome, Doode. As you can tell, the folks here are more than just a bunch of hangers-on. I'm always amazed at the tidbits that get offered up. Thanks, An, I'll hafta look for the book. You've peaked my interest.
