You haven't listened. The west armed the Taliban to fight against the USSR because it didn't want the USSR to contol Afghaistan. The countries you mentioned HAVE ALREADY been part of a peacekeeping mission in Afghanistan. And if you're such a fan of Patel, you might at least spell her name...

From what I understand, there nothing *in* Afghanistan that anyone particularly wants, it's just that geographically and strategically, it would be very useful to control it.

Good work @Chippy_Tea although Pakistan have taken in massive numbers of refugees, they have as much blood on their hands as the rest of the world as they've supported the Taliban financially, materially and with military advisors.

@Hopperty your knowledge of the history of the region is rather flawed. To address some of your points (quickly): - Afghanistan has been a proxy battleground for centuries due to its location. Many countries including the UK/Britain/England have tried to conquer Afghanistan and failed, so yes...

Home brew Newbie - My First Setup Recommendations

I started with kits, then moved to extract, then to 3 vessel all grain, then to a Grainfather. Spending more money doesn't necessarily make better beer. Freecycle can be a good place to look for equipment I once managed to get a free Baby Burco boiler. There are pitfalls to watch out for. For...

So I bought this Graham Wheeler book everybody bangs on about...

I've used SO4 more than any other yeast and have found it's probably the most floculant I've ever used and when I have had haze issues, it's been down to me rather than the yeast.

    Kegerator newbie set up help

Sorry, I'm not convinced. You have the same number of gas lines regardless of whether you use a manifold or secondary regulator, but with a regulator you can dispense at different pressures. Though secondary regulators take up more space. Not that I think that's an issue if you're only using a...

    Whirlpool arm

The Malt Miller sell a 'whirlpool fitting' and from the photos on the website, it looks like it's fitted towards the top: https://www.themaltmiller.co.uk/product/whirlpool-fitting-complete-kit/

    Kegerator newbie set up help

Sorry, but having bought both a manifold and a secondary regulator, I can't see the point of using a manifold. The ODL secondary regulators also allow you to turn off the gas supply to the keg they control the pressure for. Unless you want to, say have a line which you'll not use for kegs (say...

    Kegerator newbie set up help

If you have two kegs, where, say keg 1 needs to be at 12 psi and keg 2 needs to be at 20 psi, you have your main regulator on your gas bottle set to the pressure of your most carbonated beer (keg 2). You run gas line to a secondary regulator from the main regulator which is then connected by...

    Troubleshoot me!

I'd never thought of a syringe @matt76 I used to use a short length of tube on the end of the syphon tap and then removing it, giving a quick spray of no-rinse sanitiser and then swapping it for a longer length to reach the bottom of the bottle. But, as suggested by @An Ankoù a fermenting bin...

    Kegerator newbie set up help

I have a (I think ODL) secondary regulator from the Malt Miller which I use in conjunction with my two keg kit from Brew Keg Tap. I've only used it once with a Batham's Best clone at about 10 psi whilst a hefeweizen took higher pressure direct from the cylinder and was very impressed. Don't...

    Kegerator newbie set up help

Yes, a manifold is better than a Y piece, but, give serious thought to if you might in the future want to serve drinks that have different carbonation levels at the same time. If so, go for secondary regulators instead. You'll need one for every additional keg, but I think worth it. I...

I'd just use Brewkegtap. Johnny's customer service is great.

Aerate before or after pitching yeast

Northernbrewer's right. But for what it's worth, aeration with an air stone is discussed in at least one episode of The Sunday Session on yhe Brewing Network (I can't tell you which one though). I can't remember much about the argument for aeration except that using pure oxygen was recommended...

    Clean old beer bottles.

Would you want that in your beer though? Even if 'sterilised' (which it can be only if permanently left in a sterile environment), it could still flake off and taint the beer. I wouldn't risk it.

    Clean old beer bottles.

Are you sure Oxyclean will render something sterile? And if the bottles aren't clean, they won't be sterilised anyway.

    Pressure Barrel

As long as there's a pressure relief valve (from memory it's a post with a rubber band) on it, you can use to ferment I should imagine. Though I'd stand the barrel in something in case the seam springs a leak. But aware that your beer will sit on the trub for lor longer than it should, which...
