Beaverdale Merlot - First wine kit

I don't think it's an infection, more of a chemical twang. Maybe it will subside over time.

Beaverdale Merlot - First wine kit

I used brew safe no rinse sanitiser. Could this leave a taste?

Beaverdale Merlot - First wine kit

That must be it! A chemical taste! I couldn't put my finger on it but yes I think that's it. Maybe I need to age it???

Beaverdale Merlot - First wine kit

I'm not sure what's happened to be honest. I think leave it another month in the bottle before trying it again. I will email them though. Just to see wrist they say.

Beaverdale Merlot - First wine kit

Well I just opened the first bottle, absolutely vile. I threw it down the sink. The instructions were followed to the letter on this one. No mistakes were made. Sterilised every step of the way. Very, no extremely disappointed, I'm going to email them tomorrow. I'll even send them a bottle if...

    Your 'go to' wine kit?

Hi there, I was just wondering what you guys (and gals) would call your 'go to' wine kit? The one you know produces consistently good results that you brew over and over? Cheers Glen

Beaverdale Merlot - First wine kit

Any more news or views on these? I bottled my Nebbiolo today and have a beaverdale merlot currently aging in the bottle. I had a cheeky taste of the Nebbiolo and it tasted a bit 'thin' I'm hoping it gains some body in the bottle, (if that's even possible).

    Solomon Grundy Billberry

Hi guys, I've got one of these fruit wines in the DJ. I've not done one before and the instructions don't say when to put the Billberry juice in??? Can anyone tell me? Cheers, Glen

You said there would be more . . .

    The wand is unbelievable! Amazing!

You said there would be more . . .

It settled nicely so today I racked it into a clean, sterilised DJ and de-gassed it with my wand (wand as recommended on this forum). I had a cheeky taste and I'm very happy, no harm done at all. Phew it looks like I got away with that one! Cheers for the advice guys.

You said there would be more . . .

Yeah I think that's what I'm going to do Dutto, it's started to settle again so hopefully no harm done. I still can't believe I did it though.

You said there would be more . . .

Mistakes!!! Hi guys, newbie here, again! I don't know why I did it but I did. I meant to rack off my wine before adding the stabiliser and then stirring with my de-gassing wand but for some reason I didn't rack it even though I had the clean demijohn ready. By the time I realised I had stirred...

    Wine not clearing???

Thanks for the recommendation guys, I've got a couple of beaverdale kits on the go now that I bought a few weeks back. I ordered a better brew and Solomon Grundy fruit wine kit a couple of days ago, hope they're ok. But I'll put the winebuddy next on the list! Cheers

    Wine not clearing???

Ok so a quick update, I bottled these earlier and to be honest they've not come out too bad at all. My wife liked them and she's a bit picky about wine. There is a little carbonation to be honest but I now know more about degassing wine and it won't happen again! Thank you for your replies much...

    Wine not clearing???

What I'm learning from reading the forum posts on here is wine kits are not to be rushed. Patience is needed.

    Wine not clearing???

Ok thanks, I've got a couple of beaverdale kits to do next so I'll look into it. I'll give it until the weekend then bottle it on Sunday?

    Wine not clearing???

Yes there was finings which I added, degassed for a day or so, gently swirling the demijohn as per instruction booklet. I also drained it off the yeast into a secondary. I will look into the Bentonite, could it be just a waiting game??
