    Problem?!?!

I would say the the carbonation has just bubbled the yeast of the bottom of the keg. I assume it tastes ok?

Looking for a recipe with Idaho 7 hops

I do like Magnum for bittering. Fir me it’s nice and clean, abeit with a slight fruity twang. Though this post has me thinking about Idaho now. Damn this forum...,

You know you're doing well when...

I’m bottling on Sunday, but will probably have to wait until next weekend before the next brew goes on.

    Good Red Kits

As above, the wife has been doing the Beaverdale kits for the red, and is not bad. She has just ordered a Pinot Noir to try that. The previous Beaverdale was a Cabernet Sauvignon. In our opinion, it’s better than the California Connoisseur reds. Though we prefer the CC in White and Rose.

    Bottle carbonation temperature

Generally yes, and I thought the same about the qty of priming sugar being the main contributor to CO2 production. Historically my priming method was not really accurate. More of a that will do. However I now use sugar sachets which are better measure than what I was doing in the past. it...

Robobrew 35 litre false bottom plate

Don’t do it, don’t believe the hype. Spend the money on the whirlpool wand instead abs whirlpool. I no longer use mine as is floats off the bottom during the boil, and if you try and whirlpool it just sucks it up. I also found more crud stuck to the bottom of my GF when I used it.

    Bottle carbonation temperature

The higher the temperature the quicker they will carb up. in the winter I leave for two weeks under the dining room table. As summer approaches I move to the garage then put in the fridge earlier to slow/stop the carbonation. I still generally condition for 4 weeks after fermentation anyway.

    Sad Times

Yeah, I read that too. They have both been awesome over the years. 90% of my purchases over the years have been with them, due to their excellent support and advice. They will be sorely missed. I need to find an online source now.

    How accurate is your hydrometer?!!

Remember for those who are using a refractometer, they are only of any use pre fermentation and that you also need to calculate your own wort correction factor. They are only really if any use for indication once fermentation has begun to confirm that fermentation is actually happening.

    Bottle Brush Recommendation Please

I’ve been using Chemclean recently, mix up a batch and pour into the bottle to about an inch. Then leave for a few days. I then use my bottle rinser, that seems to work for me. I have a bottle brush, but it’s too thick to get in the bottle,

    Deathstar's Brew Day

So here is the recipe if anyone is interested. Nice smooth brew day, though had to add around 2L of water to hit OG.

    Deathstar's Brew Day

Bottled this yesterday, it’s not that bad to be honest. However it will need probably 4-6 weeks conditioning for it to round off nicely. I’ve kicked off another semi-experimental brew this morning and I will post that final recipe later on, again a little clear out of the final dregs of grains.

    I've broken my brewing virginity!

Have a read here, there is a good write up about the deviations in refractometer readings v hydrometer readings. You essentially need to calculate your wort correction factor for your own device. https://byo.com/article/refractometers

    Deathstar's Brew Day

Prepping for my next brew day, as I seem to have an abundance of bottles. So they are better full than empty. So I’ve just ordered some Wai-iti, Aurora and Galaxy hops. I’m interested is giving theWai-iti hops ago possibly paired with the remnants of my Citra. Next job is to build a recipe now.

    Drinking beer early

Like @Clint I normally always do a QC after a few days in the bottle. But generally wait for 2-3 weeks post bottle for drinkage. However the longer the wait, the better the taste.

    Hoppy Ipa

This is what I cobbled together a few weeks ago. I had a little taste a couple of nights ago and It’s going to be grand when it conditions over the next couple of weeks.

    Deathstar's Brew Day

Tomorrow is bottling day for the above, and will be another brew day. Tomorrows brew is going to be a bit of an experiment to say the least! It’s essentially a use up if all the dregs of malts I have in the freezer. It will be interesting to see how it turns out.... it will either be dreadful or...
