    Ace electric boilers?

Sounds good to me....6.45% Landlord!!! That is going to be a fun session ale :) I measured and etched my ACE a while back. The top mark is 25 litres, then the raised line just below the "full" mark is 27, then below that 25 and 23. My total mash and sparge is 33l to end up with 28l in the...

    Ace electric boilers?

The tap can be a bit tricky to do up tightly, and would be my number one suspect for a leak....

    Ace electric boilers?

Look forward to seeing the pics. I think you could put something very neat together for a fraction of the price of the GF. I've currently going down the route of testing external PIDs and temperature controllers and probably using the ACE as part of a 3 vessel system as I have plenty of space...

    Ace electric boilers?

If you're not able to stir up the grains at the bottom of the bag then I would have thought this would definitely decrease efficiency. I use a Hambleton Bard Stainless Steel Beer Paddle - Google should pop a few up. Perfect for the job. It's also worth having a go without the bag as...

    Ace electric boilers?

Here you go. You can see in the second pic how short the 900w element has been clipped.

    Ace electric boilers?

You might want to pop the black plastic base off (3 screws) and double check that both element are connected up. Mine was sold as 1600w but labelled up as 2500w. When I checked only the 1600w element was wired up. The 900 had been snipped. If you're lucky enough to have both wired up I...

    Ace electric boilers?

That is exactly the plan but I paid even less attention in class so don't even recognise the equation! If it works then I will box it up properly and integrate a PID as an upgrade from the Inkbird temperature controller that I am currently using.

    Ace electric boilers?

I think that given the rating is high enough (2000 watts) it should be ok, although I will pop the lid off and check the temperature (carefully!) during the mash. Maybe if I'd have left the ice cream in it would have helped!

    Ace electric boilers?

Right - thought you might like a good laugh at the expense of my build skills! The last time I tried a recirculating mash, the Inkbird only needed to flick on the boiler element (1600w) for a few seconds before overshooting the 76 degrees target temperature. I'm thinking of swapping the...

    Ace electric boilers?

The first brew I did I used the bag, but more as a grain bed filter - I didn't move it or dunk it. Just mashed, stirred and batch sparged whilst leaving it in place. I was a bit worried/lazy over the cleaning, but thought I'd try out the bagless method on the next brew. Once I'd finished...

    Ace electric boilers?

When I called up before I bought there only seemed to be 2 models (with and without timer). Even the cheapest non-timer model (about £95) still came with the bag and false bottom (the latter I have found brilliant for mashing). I still emailed Ace to confirm that these were included before...

Fil - nice build! Very tidy job. I've just finished rigging up the eBay dimmer to test it on the next brew. Not quite as impressive! :) I enjoyed eating the ice cream beforehand though!

    Ace electric boilers?

Hi Beercat I've now tried 3 sparging techniques with the ACE: 1. Bag batch sparge. 68% efficiency. I mashed in the bag, drained the tun and then refilled it, stirred, left for 10 mins, did a vorlauf, and then drained. I then repeated once more. I didn't lift the bag or dunk. I guess I...

    Ace electric boilers?

Sounds good! I got mine from The Malt Miller - just pop silicone into the search box and it will come up. They only do one size. Looks expensive but when you get it you realise why - the walls are 3mm thick!

    Boiler Automation Electrical Advice Required

Is anyone out there using an ITC-100? I've been very happy with the other Inkbird controllers that I have (308S and 310)....would this do the job for a 1600W element?

    Boiler Automation Electrical Advice Required

Ah...I see what you're looking for now. I use a cheap little pump to recirculate the mash in my boiler, so everything is being continually mixed bit I would be v interested in upgrading from a simple temperature controller to a PID if it improved temperature control. As regards the issue of...

    Ace electric boilers?

I usually find that when I drain off after the boil I end up with some cold break in the FV. From what I understand this is normal and many folk advocate that it is good for the yeast. The majority of the hops (leaf and pellet sludge) remain in the boiler. I don't think you want too much of...
