    Ace electric boilers?

Hi Bungle The box could be used with any vessel with an electrical element that would benefit from a PID controlling the temperature. I wanted it specifically to use with a recirculating mash on the ACE boilers, and put a dimmer into the circuit so that I could lower the power on the 1600w...

    Ace electric boilers?

Evening Beercat! The extra socket is to plug the PT100 temp probe into as I've had it finished with a plug (see pic) so that I can disconnect it. Not essential. I did exactly the same with the pump! I used a couple of offcuts of pvc siphon tube to act as a packer between the smaller barb and...

    Ace electric boilers?

I've gone for 19 x24 X 11 deep. Should give a comfortable amount of room for everything and allow for good airflow. Here's progress so far. I am bribing my competent electrician with homebrew which is a delicate balance.

    Ace electric boilers?

I'm on it. If the Beeb runs the headline "British man perishes in alpine homebrew electrocution" then don't hold your breath.

    Ace electric boilers?

It's always good to have company on the road to a garage full of shiny things and certain divorce! Might be worth asking ACE for the washer spec before ebaying them... I'll post up some pics once I have the PID, dimmer, and voltmeter assembled.

    Advice needed.

Give it a stir with a sanitised stirrer to rouse the yeast - this sometimes does the trick. What temperature do you have it at? You can also raise it to 20-21 degrees to help it along. Test the gravity in a few days time. If it's not started dropping then I would pitch another packet of...

    Rio 2016.

+1 - Nowt. Never gotten on with spectator sports.

    Ace electric boilers?

That's a pain - I must have just taken delivery of one of their last. I wanted a dedicated HLT. It will be interesting though to see if they make any improvements in the new batch. The one I just received had the tap set lower and the boiler skin where the valve is fitted had been pressed out...

    Pump priming and flow control?

I've ordered one with the aim of working towards having some of the pipe work fixed. Great manual by the way - incredible level of detail. My brewday to do list runs to about 6 points which explains why it is always utter chaos [emoji1] Thanks again for the advice.

    Pump priming and flow control?

Sounds reasonable! Were they from Angel or did you source them separately?....thanks!

    Pump priming and flow control?

Thanks Peebee, that's great. Answers most of my questions about pump feeds and priming. I'm going to fix them in place once I get the pipes and parts arranged properly. Once I've done that I guess I can look at fitting the bottle vents - I've not seen these before. Are they easy to clean?

    Ace electric boilers?

Hi BrannBrew! The ACE should be fine for smaller batches - the newer models with the 1600w element produce a healthy rolling boil. You can always buy a dimmer from eBay later on if you want to dial down the power further. I've found that this is very useful for the recirculating mash. Any of...

    Ace electric boilers?

You might be better off looking at the food grade versions as the pond version in your link is only rated to 60 degrees...

    Ace electric boilers?

Sorry BeerCat - I think I'm in the same camp as you as far as electrickery goes. I've outsourced this bit to someone who knows what their doing! Re the draining, I've had a few issues with this now mainly on the recirculating mash. I'm going to put a stainless steel scrubby in front of the...

    Pump priming and flow control?

For the last handful of brews I've been using a couple of little solar pumps to recirculate the mash and transfer spare water and wort between my vessels. The pumps work well, but I have problems priming them, getting rid of air bubbles, and starting them off. I then struggle to regulate the...

    The Meme/humorous beer image thread...

Just caught this thread and the hungover dog with the dry mouth from @Cqr. I think I've just coughed up that last mouthful of MACC IPA - priceless picture....and one I have seen too many times in the mirror. [emoji1]

    Ace electric boilers?

That's the one - you can find them for £10 from China, which is good value for a test if you arguing out different methods of mashing and sparging.

Search for normannumpa on eBay - still going strong!

    Ace electric boilers?

Yes, this works well. Do you mean for a recirculating mash and then fly-sparge? The mash works well, although it is useful to use a couple of eBay purchases to dial down the power of the element to help regulate the mash temperature - I have found a simple dimmer/speed controller and an Inkbird...

    Ace electric boilers?

Is there a layer of white scale on the bottom of the boiler? This can cause boiler thermostats to cut out early....
