Shocker! Tesco Change Their Mineral Water

thanks for the reply, really appreciate it - could I ask one more qn, would you go anywhere near tap water with a 355ppm bicarbonate for brewing? or should i stick to bottled? rest of the stats are fairly manageable with some additions (Calcium 132ppm though) but this has really put me off...

Shop bought beer in a Swing top bottle

emailed biermarket about a pre xmas delivery and a guy called Marco has given me a 3-5 working day delivery window (i will 'definitely' get it by xmas apparently). So I've put an order in for a box of 30 bottles. I'll be pacing the house for the next week! Cheers

    Belated Hello from Watford

Been a member since the Summer but not posted my hello message yet and felt bad about it so here goes! I dabbled in home brewing over the last few years prob doing the grand sum of around 4 kits over a couple of years. One benefit of the lockdown and working at home for the last 9 months has...

Shocker! Tesco Change Their Mineral Water

oh dear, thanks steve as I didnt know this. the bicarbonate in my tap water is 355ppm. I've been using chemsan in the recommended 10ml per 5 litre solution for sanitising. I've gone through 6 batches doing this and not had any problems yet but do you think this is just luck? with that bicarb...

    Re: Festival Razorback IPA Review

I switched to bottled water and never looked back. it adds around £3 to the cost but my brews have been so much better. that said I'm just outside London with v hard water. the HCO3 reading is 355ppm!

    Re: Festival Razorback IPA Review

looks great, and nice colour, more like what it says on the box (pale straw). mine has never been anything other than what I'd call orange and is now a deep amber. I've no idea why. used 1kg dextrose and kegged it (see pic for colour - I dont think its oxidised but any ideas?). mine also...

    Sanitiser help

sounds like you've got what you need but just another supporter here of both chemsan, and easyclean from brew2bottle. I've used both (think they are the same formula) and both excellent. I found starsan harder to source but also v expensive. The no rinse element makes brewday/packaging so...

Juicy Session IPA - Mangrove Jack's review

agree with what the others have said, I reckon my keg lasted 4/5 weeks of drinking and was excellent throughout, though I'd say crack on and drink it as i wouldn't say it got any better. the few bottles I had which were consumed up to 2 months after bottling weren't as good as the keg. Great...

Best Star SAN Alternative including all new Chemsan

just bought 1ltr of the easyclean from brew2bottle and reading the instructions on the back it says 'allow to dry'. Bit confused as I've been using chemsan, which i believe easyclean is an exact replica of, and haven't been drying, just pouring out the liquid and as much foam as possible and...

    Disconnects for Keezer

this is all v interesting stuff, I am using JG quick disconnects with line reducers to 3/16 and 6ft of line between keg and tap in my keezer (also through a 3 line manifold). all fine so far and no leaks that I can tell, its been c 3 months and c 4 kegs so far. I was going to go for barbed...

    Timber for keezer collar

Cheers! appreciate you saying that. now the challenge, getting through 60 pints is quite a lot,not even got the 3rd keg hooked up yet!

    Timber for keezer collar

I used 140mm x 38mm studwork timber from B&Q for mine. its not insulated inside but seems to work well. treated with some wax turned out looking pretty nice. had to go through about 10 cuts of it to find a couple that weren't bowed and have massive knots in them

    Kegerator foam Help

Hi there, I'm new to home brewing and finished a keezer build a couple months ago. Your line length feels a little short to me, I'm dispensing through 3/16OD line with John Guest restricters (so as to fit the beer out post) with 2m of line at 5°C. Have had no foaming issues so far and I have...

    New Fermenter Fridge - Currys

thanks so much for posting, I was literally looking at that fridge 2 days ago as have had same issues as you with ridiculous 2nd hand prices, and was also thinking 'I wonder if that light will get in the way of the bucket?'. good to know you've found a solution! thanks again!

    MJ Pink Grapefruit IPA

so after less than 48 hours in the fermenter it's already blown through the airlock and gone from 1.050 to 1.022. at this rate i could dry hop after 4 days and keg after 6. is there any downside to kegging 'early' if the SG has been achieved? wait a couple extra days for yeast to settle etc...

Mangrove Jacks Pink Grapefruit IPA Beer Kit + Free Enhancer

just put my pink grapefruit on today, cant wait to try it. how did your juicy ipa end up? mine was amazing, been drinking it for 2.5 weeks after only being in the keg for 10 days, was amazing (nearly finished!). first brew I've done that had no hint of the homebrew smell or taste, so pleased...

    MJ Pink Grapefruit IPA

liking the stock pot idea, looks like you've built a monster there! have you tried any yet? I brewed mine today and came out at what looks like 5.5% with 1kg of dextrose added. interestingly the sample I took from the top of the bucket was 1.042, didnt believe it so took one from the tap...
