    shop help

I use the home brew shop as they are local to me so I use click and collect so no minimum order size. They are not the cheapest but I value the convenience. They carry a pretty extensive range too.

    Stir plate

I’ve got this 12v geared motor, rated at 300 rpm. Just wonder if this is fast enough? It has plenty of torque so that shouldn’t be a problem. The attached plug has variable voltage so I can slow it down if required. just need to find some parts to attach the magnets to the drive shaft and get a...

    Cleaning Hop Spiders

I use Muslin hop bags from ebay, they're only just over £5 for 10 bags. Just throw them away after each use. 50 here for £15 https://www.biggerjugs.co.uk/products/muslin-bags-trade-pack-of-50?_pos=2&_sid=aeb8579ba&_ss=r

    Lager malt or Pilsner Malt

Thanks - I did a search but that thread didn’t appear. The synopsis- no real difference. I’ll stick with UK lager malt for now.

    Lager malt or Pilsner Malt

I've been brewing a few lagers lately and I've been pleased with the results (it the future!!) - the latest batch made with flake maize is particularly promising, really crisp! I've been using lager malt, as it's cheaper than Pilsner - is there really that much difference between the two? For...

    Pump or hoist?

I brew double batches (42L) and use a pump to move wort from my kettle to the fermenter which is already in the fridge. No way I can lift 42+kg’s of liquid. I then transfer the beer like this.

    Ball lock disconnect o-rings

Thanks Foxbat - I've ordered some. I think the double ring is a poor solution. I have some kegs with two o rings and attaching the ball lock disconnect is a battle every time - really frustrating.

    Pros & cons between 30 & 50l allinone?

For balance I have a 70L kettle and brew batches to fill 2 Corny kegs. I only get time to brew once a month so this works for me. Double batches allow plenty of conditioning time if you have sufficient kegs 😅
