    Pension protest.

When I was still working in the UK/European HQ of a US multi-national I had many French colleagues based here and to a man/woman they slagged off the various presidents for not getting tough on a variety of policies. Of course, the staff at the French subsidiary got the usual local benefits...

    Hi!

Welcome and I'm sure you'll find plenty of inspiration - there's so much information and discussion and always something new to learn, even if you keep to the basic setup.

Mead at less than 40p a bottle.

Re. Preservatives Honey for sale should not have any preservatives added, if it has it's not honey. And there are also of course all sorts of tricks to persuade us to pay a lot more than it's worth. Honey got it's own preserving properties - very rarely have I seen honey with mould on. My father...

Nitrous oxide: Laughing gas sales to be banned, says Gove

And there was me thinking, those pesky home brewers always dumping their CO2 bulbs .... But serious, why don't we have a law which has lots of space to add in or delete substances, then it would be just updated by Statutory Instrument which doesn't need reading in parliament....

Help the pubs VAT cut petition

Signed, though I do share some of the sentiments here - and even before the pandemic et al pubs and small restaurants/cafes were closing at an alarming rate, mainly due to the land value for development....

    when to add hops?

Unless the room is really cold, i.e. less than 18C I would dispense with the heat pad (I normally wrap the FV in an old sweater if absolutely necessary). And as you keep the brew in FV for longer the yeast has plenty of time to clear up any remaining sugar. This is what I have been doing with...

    when to add hops?

Not familiar with this but here are the instructions: 9. After 5 days, add the Hop Pellet sachet but DO NOT STIR (the hops will break up and disperse naturally). Now leave the beer to ferment with the hops for a further 5 days. I doubt you need a heat pad at all - if the temp is at least 18C...

    Early internet.

Did you see 8" disks - early 80s I worked with IBM display writers, the top word processor of the day. My next employer manufactured their own 8" disc "PC", it soon made way for the 5 1/4" own brand workstation but again very soon we had proper PCs with MSDOS!

    Early internet.

Last year discarded a similar directory dated 1997 (took up too much space) - the only thing I remember from it was about a website with the catchy headline "How to blow up the WTC" .... could land you in jail these days.... Was a competition prize ... at work on how we could best use the WWW...

    Early internet.

I remember in the late 80s my amazement when I found out that my internal work email address could be used on the ARPANET, pre-curser to the internet, with the correct syntax! Did work for a US multi-national - I think the internal network was called STAR. Not a techie but going back to dial up...

Rumour? is Wilko's going into administration?

Judging by the post 3PL = 3rd Party Logistics. Logistics outsourcing, warehousing, order processing and delivery to end customer.

Rumour? is Wilko's going into administration?

The situation at my local branch hasn't changed for weeks, shelve displays seem to be mainly just 1 row deep at the front. So stocking has slowed which together with supply chain issues makes a depressing sight. I wouldn't want to speculate but being a business that relies on footfall with...

What are you drinking tonight 2023.

First taster bottle (330ml) of my Pale Malt Saison (Target hops/CML Lille Saison yeast) small batch. A week in the bottle .... needs a bit more carbonation, and it's hazy/cloudy, but don't mind that. Sure it will get better over a few weeks. First impressions: - light malty flavour (pale ale...

    Greetings of the day!

Hi and welcome - I'm sure you'll find what you need. And there's plenty of advice here - search the forum or ask if you are stuck. There was a thread here on brewing in Spain a few years ago - with a few links to EU suppliers: https://www.thehomebrewforum.co.uk/threads/brewing-in-spain.84181/ I...

    Tea bag squeezing

What a typical British forum thread ... to squeeze or not to squeeze wink... Surely there must be a dedicated forum on the subject?
