    New pressure barrel from Wilkos

I have 5 P/Bs in constant rotation 3 x King Kegs, and 2 x wilco new style 4" cap P/Bs. I have moded all my P/Bs by adding a Schrader valve (to monitor pressure, and allow pressure testing), fitting new rubber seals from new, fitting a cable tie to the s3 input valve (to stop the seal sliding...

The Range- Make Your Own Home Brew, IPA

Done quite a few of these kits (the old range with internal pouch) and they are very good, but take a while to mature. If you drink early they have a strange fusal alcohol taste, which seems to disappear overnight. I add 500g of spray malt, and 500g dextrose. Just got 6 of the old style kits for...

    Good IPA kit recommendation?

Mangrove Jack brewers series are great kits, and only £11 each. The pale ale is better then the APA, done a few of these now and they have turned out great. I use 1gk of LME, and dry hop with 50g of hop pellets of my choice tried uk cascade, us cascade and chinook. The best has been with...

    Moving to AG.

I started brewing in the mid 80s when kits were crap, with very little choice. I soon turned to AG, and brewed some cracking beers. Now i only do kits, and the odd partial mash. The thing is kits have come on in leaps and bounds over the last 20 years, and if you can control your fermentation...

    Brewing kits

I supplemented the kit with 1.2kg of lme, and 500g of dextrose. I have used dme on lots of occasions, and to be honest i have never noticed a twang with dme, or lme. I ferment at controlled tempreture always re hydrate my yeast before pitching, the kit itself is hopped lme ? The most important...

    Brewing kits

Yeah i have tried the golden ale, but wasnt keen, it had a distinct homebrew twang to it, but i didnt use the supplied kit yeast i used a cml real ale yeast. I suspect it was the cml yeast that caused the twang, as i have done a few brews with there real ale yeast, and had poor results. Used...

    Brewing kits

No the lme doesnt come with the kit. Dextrose is a corn derived sugar, normal refined sugar is usable for brewing, and also are other sources of sugar honey, treacle, golden syrup etc etc, but dextrose gives a better result in the finished beer.

    Brewing kits

Yeah done the aipa, and the straight pa. The aipa is a little bit bitter for my taste, the pa is lovely. Just having a pint as i reply to your post. Made with 1.2kg of lme, 500g of dextrose, kit yeast, dry hopped with 50g of us cascade hop pellets. Brilliant athumb..

The worst thing you ever did in life

    Damned Summer Hot Days

Just make a brew fridge. I would be lost without mine. Winter, or summer you can keep the temp within 0.5 degrees, and you will see a massive improvement in the quality of the end product :beer1:

Sanitising - How anal about it are you?

Never had a brew go off (touch wood) Pretty anal about cleaning. I always use a cleaner/steriliser like chempro, i really dont trust no rinse stuff like starsan. Got away with sticking my arm in a bottom tap king keg when the tap nut stripped. My arm was in there for a good few minutes, and the...

    Brewing\pressure barrel?

Wilkos Keg's are better then KKs in my opinion. Got 2 of both. Fitted shrader valve's in lids to monitor pressure, and double up on the blow off band's, and change the tap on the wilko keg's. Has a bit of trouble with the KKs the thread seem's to have stripped on one of them, i initially thought...

Brewing styles for hot summer fermentation?

My advice is get an old Fridge, tube heater, and an STC1000, and make yourself a fermentation chamber. Best thing you will ever do.

    Kit Brewers.

The last couple of brews i have done have been half, and half (partial mash) with a kit base. Instead of adding DME, or LME i mash 1.5kg of grain in my tea urn for 2 hour's, boil for 30 mins, then add a kit to the wort in the fermenting bin, top up to desired level 23l, 25l, ferment for 10 days...
