    Small batch Belgian Tripel

Never used bottling yeast and never had a problem with bottle conditioning. The closest I have got to that was making an Orval clone, which used a MJ Belgian yeast for primary then added the dregs from a couple of bottles of Orval during secondary, a while before bottling.

Used to be a professional brewer and just inherited a load of homebrew kit..

Hi Simon welcome to the forum. Great story! I am in IT and thinking of going the other way in due course, to pro brewing but for semi retirement as I am under no illusions about the potential income from brewing! Are you still in the Cambridge area? You might be interested in the Cambridge...

Kegerator in kitchen fridge and still use fridge?

We have a second fridge in the garage and I sometimes keep a 5l mini keg in there with a party tap. The fridge is still used for food (and bottles/cans of beer).

    Brewing at 35C-40C

Not sure how it varies for dextrose but I generally use about 3-4g of ordinary table sugar per 500ml bottle. I dissolve in boiled water and add directly to the bottles with a syringe. Avoids) around with a bottling bucket. Regarding the temperature were you saying that you were able to keep the...

    My beer label artwork

Search for its full name: GNU Image manipulation program. I used to use it a lot for astro photography.

    That awkward second lift

    1. Everything is in the garage - 3-vessel system, gravity driven until the copper. 2. Pump to conical fermenter. No secondary. I gave up that when I got the conical but its doubtful that it gave much benefit even before that. 3. Bottle vía gravity, with syringe to dose bottles with sugar solution

    Admiral Hops

Just noticed this thread. I use Admiral for bittering, as you say high AA makes it economical for that purpose. I've used it with good results on golden ale and bitter. I have never used it in a single-hop beer though.

    Show us your guitar(s)

Great thread to resurrect. I built a couple from scratch. First was a learning exercise, not based on anything specific but some things in common with fender style. Second was inspired by PRS. A step up and with Seymour Duncan P-rails pickups it sounds great if I say so myself. I am working on...

    Help with equipment purchase please.

If you use a more traditional 3-vessel system as I do, then it might work as a boiler. Be careful about any automatic cut-outs. I had to modify my boiler to disable that (not the same urn as the OP's attachment). Also, the tap might not be useful.

    Calculating boil-off

My understanding is that it's a more-or-less fixed volume of boil-off per hour.,rather than a percentage of volume. I would imagine it's related more to the top surface area than volume. I find that I lose about 3l per hour on mine on full blast, but I intend to build a pwm controller to reduce...

How do people brew their beer?

Interesting to see the small score for "extract" vs kits. When I started brewing around 25 or so years ago, I didn't have the equipment or knowledge for all grain but quickly moved to brewing from extract which I saw as a step up from kits. I then had a 20 year break and started again about 5...

    Brew strong and dilute

Good point and on balance I agree. But it's not just adding water to beer, it's adding water to wort pre fermentation, which gives any nasties the chance to grow, so you need to be sure that said water is clean. Straight from the tap is probably fine.

Rumour? is Wilko's going into administration?

I went into my local on Sunday. Same administration sale signs outside. Practically nothing was reduced. Also no homebrew stuff. Complete waste of time!

    Should I try overnight mash?

    What's a "wort fountain"?

    Bottled beer cure

Yes it works fine. I guess it dilutes the ABV very slightly but for my purposes it is fine.

    Bottled beer cure

FWIW I use table sugar dissolved in boiled water and use a syringe to dose 10ml in each bottle. It's also easy to adjust for different size bottles that way.

    What the hell! Not leffe!?!

I admit I haven't tried it but based on the video above and a friend of mine who is a big leffe drinker I would expect that the recipe has changed somewhat and it's not just a 0.6 abv reduction.
