    Brewlab slope alternative

Nice one, might have to give that yeast a try. Anyone know of any other brewerys that sell yeast online like that?

    Hop growing 2019

I like the idea of self watering pots but reckon 30x30 a bit on the small side. Having said that I've seen photos of hops growing successfully in smaller pots so you'll probably be ok for year 1. Go bigger if you intend keeping them potted though. Can't advise on when to plant.

Not enough head on your brew?

Just because I happened to have a syringe handy, before and after shots. Served from a low carbonated corny keg. (Btw this beer has flaked barley in it, not that I worry about head retention)

Not enough head on your brew?

In my case it's because it's my day off and I will have to drive tomorrow morning so drink early then sober up by this evening. Also because I've brewed today and I'm not sure that fermentation works if you don't drink whilst brewing. (I've heard rumors that it does but why risk it?) Was very...

    First brew

I dunno, I've had a beer made me ill quite quickly before, it was strange because the previous 10 pints were all ok...... :yuk:

2018 Beer World Cup - Second Round Match 8

I was rereading " brewing Britain " last night and tt gets a couple of pages in there. It was also the beer i was drinking when I met my wife so has fond memories for me. I've tried Duvel but can't really remember it, never had bottled landlord either but I'm voting for the cask version.

Beer of the Month (December 2018)

I am drinking a bottle of this now, not to my taste i'm afraid. I've led a pretty sheltered life when it comes to beer, mainly just sticking to british beers, it's only the last few years since taking up brewing that I've starting exploring further afield, there are quite a few styles now that...

Beer ready in 2 wks! WTF?

Can't say I've ever followed the 2 2 2 rule, but I did have to change my timings when I started force carbonating my beers. When using priming sugar, I would regularly keg or bottle my beers after 1 week but found when force carbonating it's better to leave in primary a bit longer to give the...

    Fuggle duck: my house bitter

Been a week in the keg now and I'm really enjoying this beer so will be brewed again. Got a couple more recipes to do trialling out the west Yorkshire yeast, then likely to return to this or very similar. Incidentally my current version uses EKG rather than fuggles, and I was convinced that was...

    Kegerator Build For A Friend.

Looks good, what fridge are you using and (hard to see in the photo) is that a standard 19l corny keg in there or something smaller? Will it hold more than 1?

    Real Wort Starters

Was going to make a starter for lager yeast then thought, why not take this a stage further and do a stovetop brew this Friday (when I have the house to myself) just a demijon full then use that as a starter the following weekend when i do the main batch.

Beer of the Month (December 2018)

How about making January's beer the winner from the world cup, assuming it's not too difficult to get hold of?

Beer of the Month (December 2018)

Didn't have it in our local (small) Waitrose this afternoon and don't have a a Sainsbury's close by so if anyone spots it elsewhere please let us know.

    Fruit Wheat Beer

I reckon it will be safe as long as it smells ok. When I brewed with (frozen) raspberries I blanched them in boiling water, they also floated on the top and went white but not like in your photo. Maybe siphon out from underneath and drink quickly.

    Brewfridge question

Seeing as you can measure the temperature of your wort then I would go with that. If you measure the surrounding air temperature also you will notice quite a difference especially in the early days of a vigorous fermentation. Varies according to what I'm brewing but generally I like to start off...

Recommend a bottle filler (from corny keg)

I was thinking s closed transfer into the secondary vessel under co2, then depending on how quickly I intended drinking either C02 by demand or vented like in your picture. Like your idea of setting up at a picnic table somewhere.

Beer of the Month (December 2018)

Nice one, quite a few beers on the world cup list I want to try so will look out for this one. (Waitrose looks like a likely source according to Google) Anyone knowledgeable about wheat beers? How should this best be served? Temperature? And do you deliberately want to get as much yeast in the...

    Wilko oxi plus stain remover

I've been using the wilco oxi and haven't noticed any difference between it and homebrew shop sodium percarbonate, interesting that it's probably such a low percentage of active ingredient. regarding the chalky deposit (which I get with both types) I don't like to leave soaking for more than...

    Corny newby kit?

I second (or third) recommendation for maltmiller. Getting the gas was what put me off for ages as I couldn't find anything local on the internet. When I asked on our local homebrew group i was amazed how many places there were nearby. Ended up sourcing from a place less than a mile from my...
