Help! have I killed my beer with Chemsan!

Not done that (yet :laugh8: ) but I would reckon that if the yeast are OK then you will be.

    Tube heater

Maybe its better at conducting heat.

    Collaborative Brew Schedule - 2024

It will be condensation as I took them out of the fridge just beforehand. Lesson learned. I’ll check which ones I sent so I can let you know ABV too.

Open Fermentation and/or Different Fermenter Geometry.

Bottle conditioned so yes there will be sediment. The two I tried a few weeks ago were 'gently carbonated' so you might have to pour from a height.

    Tube heater

Don't know how you are measuring/controlling temp but you could stick a temp probe on the body of the tube and implement your own cutout. The silver DS18B20s I use work up to 120c which gives you another 30c. With no thermal cutout I imagine they might get a bit toasty. (There's no thermal...

    Tube heater

@Dave.A and @peterpiper the test was an empty ferm fridge so I was just measuring air temp. I use two bulbs 30w and 40w so 10w more than the tube heater. Put the bulbs back in and ran another test :- 12c to 19c in 19 minutes and held it there by being on for 30 seconds every 10 minutes. 19c...

@Sadfield and @matt76 - the beers are in the post. I've labelled them sample A and B so you can have the excitement :D of deciding which is which. (They're not medical samples, honest :laugh8:)

    Tube heater

Interesting. My setup was an incandescent bulb in a batten with a computer fan blowing on it to circulate the heat. There's another fan in the icebox (which doesn't have a door) to circulate the cold. If I swapped to the infrared it would have to shine on something so the heat could be...

    Tube heater

Well it took 8 hours to get from 21 to 24 :(. I checked on it when I went to get some beer last night and the tube was cool enough to be able to touch, somewhere between warm and hot so I assume it had cut out. Back to plan A I think. Unfortunately I cut the plug off to get the cable through...

What are you drinking tonight 2024.

The extract based stout. Not bad, quite a mixture of flavours - bitter at first with a syrup aftertaste.

    Tube heater

I'm not that bad :laugh8:, the main problem is when I've been using it to cold crash and a lot of ice builds up in the icebox at the top of the fridge. When I defrost it, despite putting a towel in icebox to soak it up as it melts there is always a lot of dripping and water collecting at the...

    Tube heater

@Caramel Ox and @Buffers brewery - I got the one without a thermostat but it will cut out at 90. It did eventually reach 19. I left it running for a bit and then set the controller to 21 which it got to in just over half an hour which is OK. I've now given it the challenge of 24. I think the...

    Tube heater

After years of using 40 watt light bulbs as the heat source for my brew fridge I decided to 'upgrade' to a 60 watt heat tube, primarily because they are splash proof. Did the install this morning, set my controller for 19c and set it away as a test. Over two hours later it has crawled up to 18c...

    Starsan

I use chemsan mixed with spotless water. I used to use tap water but that used to go cloudy (sign of too high ph). I mix it in the BZ set for about 45c so it is hand hot when I use it. I use it until it doesn’t look clean anymore (like when I clean up after making a stout :laugh8: ).
