Any thoughts on this Pale Ale recipe

How hoppy are you hoping for?
  2. DoctorMick

    Fermenation and secondary (2+2+2) problems.

You can get short, stubby fermenters if you'd rather get things sealed up? I'm sure there would be a model that would fit in your fridge.

    Grainfather review after 100 brews

I suspect if the element goes it'll be a case of binning the machine. If it does happen to me I'll contact iMake to see what they can do first tho, there customer service has been spot on so far. Mind you, if it makes it to 150 brews before it gives up I don't think I'll be disappointed.

Home Brew Competition - September 17

Yeah, according to the revised style guide they are. I'm not sure i have enough of my amber ale left to enter a bottle so I don't think we need to work out whether that'd be acceptable.

    Spapro's Brewdays

The blackberry Stout sounds like it'd be a good fit for the November seasonal forum comp if you're interested? :thumb:

Flat lifeless cask ales are they deliberate?

Sounds like the pub are rushing them out without giving them time to condition. As far as I know, beer usually leaves the brewery unconditioned so the pub have to leave them a few days to carb up and settle before putting them on.

    (I drink) cheap beer

I bought one of them once, pumpkin ale mustn't have been a good seller at the time. Mind you, it did include a bottle of Stone Ruin 10 so it was worth every penny.

    60 Minute IPA Greg Hughes

Although the oats and carapils won't necessarily yield the same amount of sugars as the pale so it may not be a gram for gram swap to get the abv exactly the same. Best bet would be to run it through some brewing software.

    What's that smell?

I've never noticed a smell from fermenting beer unless I've stuck my nose in the fv.

Seasonal Forum Competition - November 17

My thinking is a blackberry stout hopped with bramling cross...predictable but should be a good combination. I've had a gooseberry sour before and the flavours worked well so I'm sure a saison would be a good un.

    What's that smell?

It's the boil that smells really but that lasts 90 minutes tops and the smell clears pretty quickly. Personally, I think it smells really nice but I've had plenty of people around when I've been brewing that wouldn't agree.

Clear winner! Does anyone who was planning a Christmas beer but not a berry beer fancy judging? It's a really enjoyable thing to do and, most importantly, it's free beer!!!
