HELP: Can you scald or burn DME??

I can but that'll be nearly all the DME I've got for this brew... Stupid question, should I have cooled the water THEN added it to the DME? When I've used DME before I've just slung it in with boiling water and the can

HELP: Can you scald or burn DME??

Bit of a panic, boiled some water to mix with extra light DME to make a yeast starter and it's gone ever so dark and I'm worried I've buggered it Put the DME in the sterilised demijohn, took the water off the boil and poured it in an mixed it. Is it screwed? I've not put the yeast in yet thank...

    Lager and lagering

I've been meaning to read that after another recommendation, I must get round to it so thanks for the link again. Will this method work with can kits or is it suited more for all grain / BIAB?

    Lager and lagering

Cheers for that. I'll have a little sip before lagering to check for buttery flavours and if it seems OK I'll leave it (Did a wilko Cerveza with no temp control and it wasn't buttery so fingers crossed). So prime and bottle as normal after lagering? That was the bit that confused me. Usually I...

You're stuck in quarantine with only one book

The Shining by Stephen King. Apt, a bloody good yarn and one of the only books that still creeps me out even after repeated reading

    Lagering vessel

It's sat on a can kit in the 2nd picture so height won't be an issue, it's the poxy spine running down the middle of the door that's stuffed me up Was gonna have a go at surgically removing the offending lump tonight but had wiring problems in the brew shed so that and my yeast starter will...

    Brew fridge door surgery

Hi all After trying to make my pressure bottle sit in my brew fridge properly I am having serious thoughts on removing the inner panel on the door. Only problem is I can't find any screws or clips that are holding it in place under the seal. Will have another look but am thinking I could cut /...

    Beginner

I've found eBay useful recently in sourcing bits and pieces recently having just got back into brewing after moving house. It's definitely a bit pricey but there are some good cheap seller out there. I use Home Brew Shop UK | Homebrew Beer Kits | Wine Making | Home Brewing a lot too and they are...

    Lager and lagering

Hi all Going to get a coopers Cerveza on the go at the weekend, using a starter made from youngs Lager yeast (1st time using a starter as this ***** didn't check the net weight so need to breed it it up a bit). My understanding is that it will take longer to ferment (3 weeks at least) and...

    Lagering vessel

It's a one off, Heath Robinson contraption made from a scrap of melamine or formica covered board from my dad's shed covered in silver primer and wheel lacquer to seal and protect it and a bit of random metal trim hot-glued on to finish it. Blue Peter eat your heart out! :laugh8:

    Lagering vessel

Cheers for that, feel a bit more reassured now. I'm not going to keep the finishd beer in the barrel, looking to bottling it finally as I've promised some to some friends a bit further a field but glad it should work on the slant. I would lager in the bottle but again, not convinced I'll get...

    Lagering vessel

Tried it and no go thanks to the bloody moulding on the inside of the door asad1 Worth a shot though. Might look into dismantling the door at some point. Thought about kegs but money is tight and not sure I want to disappear down that rabbit hole just yet! Will give them a look though athumb..

    Lagering vessel

Maybe, I stupidly wired the heater and temp probe through the back. Will have a go but ot sure because of the hump at the back (where the shelf meets the back of the fridge.) it's a dumpy barrel. And infuriatingly it's not out by much. I'll give it a look and let you know

    Lagering vessel

Hi all Was hoping to get my next brew on this Saturday, a Coopers Cerveza kit with the idea of lagering it for a long time after fermenting. Problem is getting something fit for purpose that will fit in my brew fridge. I have a wilko pressure barrel that kind of fits but it's at a dodgy angle...
