    Strainer/filter £10

I've got that one. I spotted it in a visit to Dunelm, was more expensive but less of a trek than Ikea. I've only used it once so far, on top of my kettle to drain BIAB bag into, but it worked fine.

    Three hop combinations

I feel same about Citra. I'm really annoyed I bought a pack of Galaxy and never used it in anything and now it's so far past it's best I don't want to risk using it. I really like Love /Hate's Citra Galaxy combo. I'm going to try an IPA next bittered with Magnum and then Citra and Cascade...

    Cost of Beer Kits

Interesting thread. I have only just moved into AG (BIAB) with one decent-good result, and one awfully disappointing one at the moment which I don't think is going to improve. When I started brewing I did a few kits, mix of single can as was, then with additions (Coopers kits) and finally some...

    AG no.3- late hopped IPA

Thanks once again. My ingredients should be there when I get home so I have a few bits and pieces to do; including possibly a trial run to calculate boil off rate; and setting the brew fridge up, then I'll see if I can get this brew on next week unless someone points out massive issues with the...

    AG no.3- late hopped IPA

Thank you- when is best to take pre-boil gravity- could I for eg do it after sparging? As I will sparge with room temp water (I don't have another kettle to heat up the sparge water at the moment) this should mean it isn't very hot wort when I check it.

    AG no.3- late hopped IPA

Hi folks I'm going to have a stab at a hoppy IPA next after an Oatmeal Stout bottled in November continues to be rank. Recipe below. Method: BIAB Batch Size: 10L (ish) OG: 1.053 SG: 1.010 IBU: 57.04 ABV: 5.67 Strike Water: 7L Tesco Ashbeck Sparge Water: 7L Tesco Ashbeck Grain bill: 2.5 kg...

    What are you drinking tonight.

I haven't had many Verdant, sometimes not for want of looking for them... I like Bloom and think I have had Headband. I wanted to get their single hop Galaxy DIPA but couldn't justify the price tag tbh. Those 9 cost me over 50 quid! I enjoyed the collab, I will have the DIPA later I expect...

    What are you drinking tonight.

All commercial for me, it's been a crap festive period between one thing and another so haven't drunk much at all. My only homebrew is an oatmeal stout so was always going to buy this year. The first 2 I had of that were severely disappointing, so will leave them longer before having more and...

    The difference between?????

Absolutely. I don't see it around much sadly.

    The difference between?????

I love Oakham Citra and have bought the M and S one lots when I can't get the cheaper Oakham one as I think for all intents and purposes they are exactly the same. If you have ever seen the M and S double dry hopped IPA in a 330ml green can, I am pretty sure that is a repackaged Oakham Green...

    BIAB.

Thanks for that- I might well give that a go. I will be trying a hoppy IPA next as it goes but it has taken me ages to cool wort as I say, I don't really know why that is I used ice in the sink and it was only a 10L brew), but it does add a lot of time I don't really have to my brew day waiting...

    BIAB.

Thank you- do you need to compensate with additional hops or anything using this method, do you find?

    BIAB.

Quick question on no chill- one aspect I am struggling with with BIAB is getting the wort to chill down quick enough post boil- I don't want a wort chiller as on a water meter. Can you simply put your wort into the FV and leave it to cool naturally or is this risking infection? and I think I...

    BIAB oatmeal stout- conditioning times?

I'll try one on my brother. He has never homebrewed but likes his stouts and porters. I might give it another couple of weeks first though.

    BIAB oatmeal stout- conditioning times?

It's a possibility...I like commercial oatmeal stouts though. I drank darks and porters for years pretty much exclusively, where possible. This one reminds me of a coopers Dark Ale kit I brewed a long time ago which was too sweet and a bit lifeless. I'll leave it another couple of weeks as I...

    BIAB oatmeal stout- conditioning times?

I thought that 1.018 was high myself but as I say apparently it is not unusual for that style due to the addition of the porridge oats and oatmeal stouts are sweeter than dry. I've never had a beer finish that high before but was careful to check hydro readings were consistent for a few days...

    BIAB oatmeal stout- conditioning times?

I did- but I think this was because I had not stirred the mash sufficiently. Post boil the hydrometer reading was 1.056 which is exactly what I should have got according to BF.

    BIAB oatmeal stout- conditioning times?

Hi mate Batch size: I reckon about 10.5 Litres made it's way to fermenter. I mashed with 7L, sparged with 3, then added liquor from cold steeped grains (2L) which were also sparged (1L). Grain Bill: 2000 g United Kingdom - Maris Otter Pale 38 3.75 77.2% 80 g United Kingdom - Roasted Barley...

    BIAB oatmeal stout- conditioning times?

Thanks Matt. Been bottled for 6 weeks so far. I don't drink stouts and porters much anymore but would like to get it right to say I have done the style and as my brother likes them. I'm giving your podium ipa a go next time in my brand new fermentation fridge, arriving Sunday.

    BIAB oatmeal stout- conditioning times?

Hi mate, thanks for response. Lookng through my notes no glaring issues with mash temp. Start of mash was 66 which was 64.5 by time it finished 60 mins later. No fermentation temp control this time but fermented in a cupboard under stairs at 18.5 to 20c. I used US05 yes. Grain was all from...
