Citra / Simcoe IPA hop schedule

I really appreciate the answers to my off original topic questions- to be honest the last couple of brews being a disappointment was making me consider if I am ever going to enjoy the beers I make as much as the process of making them and whether I should therefore knock it on the head for a...

Citra / Simcoe IPA hop schedule

That's all really helpful thank you- especially as the process which you have ditched is what I do and what I think is causing me problems at the moment. I have a bottling bucket and was thinking of using it as a fermenter to see if that reduces oxidation, then I could tell that my spihoning is...

Citra / Simcoe IPA hop schedule

That's good to know thank you- I am still in my infancy as a BIAB brewer, with some frustrating results if I am honest- first attempt decent (Citra IPA attempt, turned out too dark and sweet due to 10% crystal malt but the citra actually came through nicely ), second didn't enjoy it much...

Citra / Simcoe IPA hop schedule

I did the same as Citra is a waste to me as a bittering hop! Thanks for that- that's the book I have (this will be my first recipe from it!)

Citra / Simcoe IPA hop schedule

Thanks mate- I am torn with dry hopping as I want the aroma but I am currently struggling with my AG beers being quite dark after bottle conditioning, I think it's an oxygen issue. Probably more to do with my siphoning than anything but trying to cut down how many times I have to open the FV...

Citra / Simcoe IPA hop schedule

Hi everyone I am brewing a porter for my next small batch BIAB AG attempt; but I also have ingredients on the way for a Citra / Simcoe based IPA, as I love Citra and have never brewed with Simcoe, so trying to do some planning ahead. My recipe is loosely based on the GH American IPA so I know...

    Greg Hughes recipes

I did post this question on another thread, so sorry for the duplication, but I have just started to find the time to leaf through this book now I have gone AG and a few recipes I fancy; first up the American Pale Ale as I love Citra and like Simcoe but never brewed with it myself. I'm planning...

Greg Hughes American Pale Ale- dry hop it?

Hi all Working from home has enabled me to find the time to read through the famous Greg Hughes book and now I use AG; there's a few recipes I want to try. The first one will likely be the American Pale Ale. I have noticed the recipe does not call for any dry hopping. Really I know I should...

What's on your to brew list?

I'm still in my infancy as an AG brewer (next will be number 5) but now with access to a brew fridge and feeling like I can get some decent beers made, I really want to get going... 1. a porter along similar lines as Fullers London, ish 2. a re-brew of my first ever all grain, a Citra IPA...

How do you measure your mash temperature?

That sounds excellent and a really good piece of equipment for that price- bookmarked on Amazon; thanks for the tip!

How do you measure your mash temperature?

That looks really good. I have a thermapen which didn't need calibrating but I calibrated it anyway; then calibrated my Inkbird 308S probe against the Thermapen. So do you just pop the external probe in for the duration of the mash and leave it be then? would also be handy to do the same to see...

    Bottling day- big trub loss

I'll give the calibrations a try; I'd like to brew again soon but with stocking up during the pandemic the brew fridge is being borrowed by SWMBO for now as a supplemental food fridge; which is frankly sacrilege, but hey ho! I have a porter and re-brewing a Citra IPA which was my first AG...

    Bottling day- big trub loss

It's a very roughly calibrated brew spoon with pen markings- I tipped water into my brew pot and marked the spoon at intervals of about 2 litres each up to 14L. So it might be a bit off but I can't imagine it would be absolutely miles off either. Hmm. Any suggestions on how to get a more...

    Bottling day- big trub loss

Hiya Thanks for reply. Cooled the brew kettle in the sink in ice bath then transferred to FV via sterilised strainer to catch hops; then into brewing fridge. fermented for 2 weeks at 19c; then dry hopped, and cold crashed at 5c.

    Bottling day- big trub loss

Morning all I bottled my latest effort (Galaxy PA) this morning, AG number 4. I did this one a little differently in that I both fined it in the kettle (irish moss) and cold crashed it for about 2.5 days in total. Yeast was M44. I could see that there was going to be a large amount of sediment...

5 alcoholic drinks I won't ever touch again

    1. Jagermeister. Lost half a day when I was drinking it like it was water; and also lost my cat, who wandered off as I was so pissed i didn't realise I had left the door open at 3 am...he came back though happily; 2. MD2020- definitely a teen thinking it's clever sort of drink; now it's like...

    First AG porter recipe help

Thank you- I will be using Geterbrewed for ingriedients which lists light chrystal as 145-160EBC- so will probably go for that and hopefully get sufficient Porter colour from the choc and brown malts.
