I really don't like using bottled water due to the plastic. So maybe I'll just have to by a bigger brita or one you attach to the faucet. For this, my first brew I filtered 80% of the water through a 1/2 L filter. Labour intensive to say the least!

We have a brita filter and I can really taste the difference. Don't know what it is though. Just figured I'd err on the side of caution as I can't find any info about our water here.

Hi All Is it advisable to use a secondary FV after fermentation when using kits? If so, would using the tap on the primary FV be adequate for transfering or would I need a syphon? Cheers

Yep, time to collect more bottles! So far I don't see the airlock bubbling at all btw - I just notice the difference in level.

So my Youngs IPA is hopefully fermenting. It's been 48hrs. I have a couple of questions maybe someone can help with: 1. Fermentation for this kit is supposed to be somewhere between 20-24 deg. In the beginning the temp on the FV was roughly at room temperature. Something like 23 deg. But last...

Thanks Terrym. How does one sanatise the lid of the FV? I had to squeeze it into the FV and was worried about it scraping the sides. I guess a quick spray with Star San?

Yeah I can imagine!! As I said, it was a completely new kit so I figured it would be ok. After the first brew I'll use PBW to clean.

Yeah, I ordered some today. So it seems that it's PBW for cleaning, StarSan for sanitizing. As it's a new kit I only cleaned everything with hot water and soap before rinsing then soaking in OXI for the recommended 5 mins. Guess all I can do it now is wait and see if I've messed up!

The Brewferm starter kit came with some Chemipro OXY . I also purchased some PBW for future brews.

OK, but there won't be a problem with the rubber seal messing up the brew will there? I only have a bottle of five star pbw and that stuff has to soak over night doesn't it?

What do you reckon the washer will do if on the inside? The washer is made of rubber I think. Just to note, the yeast was put in 3 hours ago
