    Youngs American IPA

I'm 9 days in. Think I'll do a gravity reading tomorrow and add hops if all is well. Quick question, how would you batch prime this kit if going to a secondary? I'm new to this and have read that some people just pour the priming sugar into the secondary and syphon the beer on top. Others boil...

Star San - how long does it keep?

Hi All I'm new to the World of homebrewing. I have a few star san questions: 1. What temp should it be stored undiluted? 2. How long does it keep for once diluted? 3. Do I really need to ph test it? Thanks for any help!

    Secondary or not?

What is 'cold crashing'? This is my first brew. With the youngs kits can you just transfer to a 2nd FV and add priming sugar directly to the 2nd FV? Or do you mix it with boiling water first? I imagine stirring it in is not a good idea as you produce more oxygen. Also, do you let it sit for a...

Does this mean my tap water's fine to use?

Hi All As an expat living in France it can get a little complicated finding out facts and figures on this subject. From this website it seems that France using something called Ozone and not chloramine...

    Secondary or not?

I really don't like using bottled water due to the plastic. So maybe I'll just have to by a bigger brita or one you attach to the faucet. For this, my first brew I filtered 80% of the water through a 1/2 L filter. Labour intensive to say the least!

    Secondary or not?

We have a brita filter and I can really taste the difference. Don't know what it is though. Just figured I'd err on the side of caution as I can't find any info about our water here.

    Secondary or not?

Thanks for your help Terry and others. One other question if I may. Is this the right stuff to purify my tap water? https://www.brouwland.com/en/our-products/winemaking/stabilising-and-cleaning/cleaning-products/d/potassium-sulfite-vinoferm-campden-1-kg I can;t seem to find Campden tablets...

    Secondary or not?

OK. Does it make a difference if you're dry hopping?

    Secondary or not?

Hi All Is it advisable to use a secondary FV after fermentation when using kits? If so, would using the tap on the primary FV be adequate for transfering or would I need a syphon? Cheers

    First brew kit?

Yep, time to collect more bottles! So far I don't see the airlock bubbling at all btw - I just notice the difference in level.

    First brew kit?

So my Youngs IPA is hopefully fermenting. It's been 48hrs. I have a couple of questions maybe someone can help with: 1. Fermentation for this kit is supposed to be somewhere between 20-24 deg. In the beginning the temp on the FV was roughly at room temperature. Something like 23 deg. But last...

Help! First brew and tap is leaking!

Thanks Terrym. How does one sanatise the lid of the FV? I had to squeeze it into the FV and was worried about it scraping the sides. I guess a quick spray with Star San?

Help! First brew and tap is leaking!

Yeah I can imagine!! As I said, it was a completely new kit so I figured it would be ok. After the first brew I'll use PBW to clean.

Help! First brew and tap is leaking!

Yeah, I ordered some today. So it seems that it's PBW for cleaning, StarSan for sanitizing. As it's a new kit I only cleaned everything with hot water and soap before rinsing then soaking in OXI for the recommended 5 mins. Guess all I can do it now is wait and see if I've messed up!

Help! First brew and tap is leaking!

The Brewferm starter kit came with some Chemipro OXY . I also purchased some PBW for future brews.

Help! First brew and tap is leaking!

OK, but there won't be a problem with the rubber seal messing up the brew will there? I only have a bottle of five star pbw and that stuff has to soak over night doesn't it?

Help! First brew and tap is leaking!

What do you reckon the washer will do if on the inside? The washer is made of rubber I think. Just to note, the yeast was put in 3 hours ago
